I felt like I was listening to a linux distro description as you went down the formats the C700 can handle (I’m in IT). This isn’t a criticism of your review, it just makes me ask "okay, is this audio now?" Everyone is using one of 3 or 4 "blessed" DACs, (probably based on availability), the underlying signal path is all handled through BluOS, Good Class D amplification, some reasonable speakers and ta-da, here’s another boxen for you to enjoy / evaluate / experience with only the gatekeepers grinding their teeth. Good thing? Probably. Maybe take the preamp outs & put them through your Audiolab and see if there are differences in the signal processing? Or perhaps that Emperor is actually butt-nekkid and we’ve been sold on a name. Or a NAIM… 😉 Great work, btw, picked up a Caimbridge Audio AXR100 to start building a new system based on your recommendation.

What I do care about is the user experience of the app. How seamlessly things work. If you get a Sony CDP-X7ESD CD player, or any CD player with the KSS-190A mechanism, it switches tracks almost instantly, and you can search forwards or backwards in a track at 2 different speeds. And it’s a solid piece of high-performance kit. I want something like a C700 – or a (power)node – that has a similar high quality feel to how things work. It’s probably not that easy when it comes to streaming services though. But it should be able to do this when connecting to my own music library.

I get the feeling this isnt something that is really a hifi component. Im curious how it would compare to the music fidelity ms3 or 5

  14. Jules Winants on January 3, 2022 at 10:23 am

What i would like to know. In the review u are playing vinyl treu it. How did that sound, did it give the musicality that a lp record has? I’m thinking of buying this and hooking up my rega p1 plus. This because of the slowly dying of my cambridge audio 640a that was build in 2004? Would this be a good choice, or blasphemy?

Once Upon a Time steel bikes for the best
No sorry aluminum bikes are better A lot better because of the Aluminum is better because it’s better
No actually Carbon Fiber bikes are better because they’re better even though they’re better they’re better
Hey dude, Guess what, nobody knows it dude but dude, steel bikes are now the best, No Doubt, steel bike is what you want dude.

Would this NAD c700 work well with kef metas?

  17. Mike Thomas on January 3, 2022 at 10:26 am

Everything is a computer now. My $6000US Naim Uniti Star’s display has gone dark immediately after a firmware update. It has been weeks, with nothing from Naim other than the typical dances around a totem pole and speaking in tongues. Save your money and buy something else. You could replace 10 of them for what I paid for one Uniti Star. I’m screwed because I also have two Mu-so units, so I’m kind of uninterested in total replacement of a $9000 multi-room system.

  19. Matteo Ventura on January 3, 2022 at 10:28 am

Biggest issue of NAD products is the lack of Chromecast built-in. Which Naim and Cambridge Audio have.

  20. Vijay Parikh on January 3, 2022 at 10:28 am

Regarding market cross over – think of the POWERNODE as the Toyota Camry and the C700 as the Lexus ES and the M33 as the Lexus LC. You want price/performance ratio, get a POWERNODE. You want a nicer look, a screen for the menu options and an on device menu – well get the c700. You want outright performance – get the M33. Toyota -> $35K, Lexus ES->$60K, Lexus LC -> $100K. POWERNODE -> $1049, C700 -> $1500, M33 -> $4500. Different types of consumers — you just have to figure out what kind you are 🙂 Me? I just ordered a POWERNODE. And I drive a Camry too 🙂

  21. Loud&Clear on January 3, 2022 at 10:31 am

Interesting thoughts. I think Bluesound has now become the more recognizable name, especially among non-audiophile consumers. For this reason, there is still relevance for both Bluesound and NAD to each exist…I agree though, the Powernode being as good as it is for the money has GOT to be cannibalizing C700 sales.

M10v2 though is clearly a different product aimed at a different customer. If for no other reason, the room correction will make it sound WAY different even if all the rest of the guts were the same. That feature, along with its much higher price point both target a very different, less casual customer.

    Very good

  23. Anil Sanjivan on January 3, 2022 at 10:35 am

Love your channel. However you keep referring to bluetooth capability . My understanding is that current bluetooth codec does not support lossless or high res music. So if i have apple music on my android phone, whats the answer? headphone to RCA?

  24. Lee Ivan on January 3, 2022 at 10:35 am

This is perfect. I am considering between m10 v2 and c700. Since I do not really need huge output at the moment, c700 seems to be good enough and if not I shall have another power amp along with next speaker upgrade.

  25. constantin58 on January 3, 2022 at 10:35 am

if i’m not mistaken both Evo and M10 use the much better Hypex amps than HybridDigital UcD in C700.

  26. Viktor Velychko on January 3, 2022 at 10:37 am

This is where marketing is evil. I made a direct comparison with the Naim Uniti Atom and NAD loses outright. NAD sounds disgusting digital coloring, very tedious and annoying. Moreover, the higher the level of acoustics, the more it dulls and annoys. Anti-music device. I sincerely feel sorry for the people who torture themselves with such a sound.

I have the 2021 Node connected to Michi X3. Do not like Bluesound the experience at all. Awful interface and usability, and major Airplay problems. so must keep looking for a streamer. but thanks heaps for another GREAT review.

  33. Aaron Schulman on January 3, 2022 at 10:44 am

I love what NAD is doing with the AV processing in their new systems. I am anxiously waiting for them to do a firmware update that allows the pre-out to run center channel audio to go from 4.X to 5.X. First company to make that unit gets my money.

Hello. I’m looking for a good source with eARC to pair with a tube amp Decware SE84UFO2. Is NAD C700 the good choise ?

Did you guys return the Heco speakers?

  36. Alfred Diender on January 3, 2022 at 10:49 am

I had a demo unit for a few days at home. The sound was very clean, but also a little clinical. Because of the Bluesound system there is a 50ms delay on all inputs, even the HDMI input. So there was a lipp sync issue when watching TV that was very annoying.

I had the nad t666? (Bought it in 2015]. After using this in my home theater system for six years, it stopped working. I brought it to the local authorized nad repair shop, and nad agreed to cover the cost of repair. The estimate for the repair was $1,500. (Burned out amplifier, etc.) The NAD service rep advised that it wasn’t worth repairing, since there was no guarantee that the receiver wouldn’t break down again. Nad offered to give me a 50% credit towards the t778. It seemed like a good deal at the time. I then started reading reviews on the Crutchfield site. Roughly half the receivers were returned to Crutchfield due to defects. Who needs the aggravation? Bought a Marantz sr8015 instead. (One man’s experience.)

Great review as always. I’m looking for a 2 channel set up for music and movies (50/50) and I cannot for the life of me find a single all-in-one intregrated amplifier (e.g., NAD C700) or 2 channel wireless speaker (e.g., KEF LS50W) set up that has a night mode, dialogue mode, or some other form of dynamic range compression for watching movies without waking up the kids or pissing off the neighbors at night. Any suggestions?

I think you should compare the Lyngdorf 1120 against these other streaming mini amps. I think it’s a different beast. Also interested in your views as to why there are no ABX blind tests of AVRs against these amps. Sonically is there a real difference? If not why not buy an AVR for less money (I’m talking aventage or comparable) and have more power, all the toys and the ability to do movies too? Can’t see what these little streaming amps offer apart from being small and looking kinda cool…?
