Car Audio Home Theater | How To Use Car Stereo System Anywhere | Car Audio Q&A

We get asked a lot if car audio equipment can be used out side of the car and how this can be done.

In short, yes this can be done, you’ll need a power converter that takes 120 AC Voltage and outputs 12 Volts DC to power your car audio equipment. Use this to charge a car battery if you need portability.

Have you guys at Sonic figured out a way with that car audio boombox to enable the stereo receiver to save the memory settings when disconnecting from the power converter to the battery, or vice versa? Thank you if you ever get the chance to discuss that kind of topic.

Holy fuck! just throw everything in a toolbox and turn it on! Waaaay cool. Very "conceptual". No, really.

  16. Fred Zlotnick on July 29, 2020 at 8:21 pm

A computer power supply can supply 20+ amps at 12V, should be more than enough for any car audio, Someone just needs to look up the wiring on the 24 pin plug. You should be able to pick up a used computer supply for $25 or less

I have made the same thing, just more for home audio. I have put a car stereo headunit inside a smaal box that i made in a few minutes. Inside is a 12 v 7,2 amp sla battery that runs the whole thing. Outside i have two connectors for an external battery charger

  22. Joaquin Juarez on July 29, 2020 at 8:31 pm

But what kind of power supply is that, is it automatic will it accidentally overcharge the battery and so on and so forth?

Finally, I found what I am looking for. SUPER helpful information and never even thought about the hook up for the displays until you mentioned it. So I am looking to build my own custom portable sound system for off-grid raves. I have previously used a large bluetooth speaker which did the trick for a group of about 7-10 friends sitting around a campfire by the lake. I am an avid woodworker as well and love creating innovative new things. I have 2x10in Kickers and 1x12in Memphis sub and have been wanting to build a new home for them for quite some time. However, new receivers these days only have the LFE (RCA) plug instead of the traditional +/- ports so the project has been put on hold until I could find a way to power them. I don’t want to splice and banana plug and all that. I want a simple, professional instal.

So going off all this, I want to build a portable DJ booth with these subs plus quality car speakers. The reason I want to go this route specifically is I don’t want to waste money on home theatre speakers because not only do I already have a killer HT set up #Klipsch, but because I will just take it all apart anyways and use the speakers for a custom build. I want the sound, style and architecture to be completely authentic. 100% unique. I want to build the housing and install everything myself.

    Now getting to the point.

Can you recommend me proper equipment/speakers to handle this set up? I am looking for speakers that will deliver crisp low mid, mids and highs for EDM genres emphasizing in dubstep/trap. I have an OBAM 1200w mono block amp with a crossover but wouldn’t mind investing in a better one. I won’t really want to use a battery, I plan to power it using a new quiet generator.

Again, great video. I am so glad I came across it. It has boosted my inspiration to carry out my passion and to throw down "underground" beach raves with my friends.

Something like this would be great to build into a headboard.

  28. Richard Ritch on July 29, 2020 at 8:39 pm

Does the box of the home theater use anywhere has bass enought bass ? it´s more woofer or subwoofer
    ?

  29. Michael Burton on July 29, 2020 at 8:42 pm

I assume he means a car battery??

  30. Shantell Amend on July 29, 2020 at 8:42 pm

Im using Avasva instructions to make it and I do it already 🙂

  31. Obi's Stuff on July 29, 2020 at 8:42 pm

well this was an idea. Now this isn’t sounding all that good. The idea was to build an semi old school Stereo box from the early 2000s with a head unit. I thought the idea was cool and was just gonna get two shelf speakers. I was hoping just to add a wall plug to a small 12v ac plug. But it sounds more than what its worth.

  32. Matthew Von Allmen on July 29, 2020 at 8:44 pm

anybody who wants to do this and not have a battery and only need 30 – 40 amps any computer power supply will work or a white Xbox 360 power block

  33. N Gauge England -Synthematix- on July 29, 2020 at 8:47 pm

car audio isnt as good as home audio but its loud

  34. Destro on July 29, 2020 at 8:48 pm

I found its better to have a home theatre system amp which has 5 high pass filters and 1 sub output depending on channel setup

I run a 3000rms DJ amplifier to run 2 15s in my room in TRWC – 15 boxes and use my hometheatre amp to give me 4 high pass channels which I only use the front 2 channels running 2 bullet tweeters and 2 6x9s
It’s all controlled by a behringer EQ pre amp

  35. Electronics For Fun on July 29, 2020 at 8:49 pm

why do many people want to use car audio in their house? car audio is much lower quality than home audio, and it requires a whole rigmarole. just buy some home audio equipment.

Seems like too much of a hassle. I just replaced my mids in my car with better mids and don’t want to throw away the old ones. Maybe I will just put them in my office for display LOL!
