In Austin it all depends on what part of the city you live in. I love the north side better than the Southside. The far westside is call the hill country where alot of the wealth people live. Some parts of the westside remind you of the hills in California.

The east side ain’t what it used to be

My husband grew up in Austin. We got married there in 2011 and lived there together for 10 years. It is very hard to live in Austin unless you are a professional. The housing is extremely high, the homeless are everywhere, the traffic is horrible, but jobs are pretty good.
We moved to San Antonio and found housing and jobs are great here. We recently drove up to Austin and Congress Ave had been painted, so sad. The homeless camps were everywhere and a lot of construction. Austin is fun, beautiful and so much to do there but it’s not for us.

No one walking around in Austin! Someone gave you the wrong tour guide! I’ve lived in Austin since 82′. I’ve seen it change dramatically. Companies come and go. Buildings being torn down and new ones being built. Houses as well. Mall turned into a college. Having costume weapons on 6th street during Halloween to being arrested for having a costume weapon on 6th! The traffic has always been there since 90’s but has gotten much worse. The cost of living is insane! If your not a doctor or well known lawyer, forget about living here! You’ll end up living in Georgetown or further out and working in Austin. The good side of town is running from $800,00 to a million+! The area that used to be called ghetto has homes and duplexes priced at $500,000! The richest ghetto I know of! No section 8 available in Austin. But other services are that are similar.
As for people walking, go downtown Congress. Many business men/women walking. Tourists too. Go to town lake or Lady Bird Lake. Bunch of people walking, jogging, bycycling, walking their dogs, and canoeing in lake!
This guy must hate Austin or want people to stop moving here. He literally made the wrong turn! He missed a lot you all! It’s like going to New York and turning into Harlem saying Time Square doesn’t have all the lights and businesses they say. 😐 😆
The food is great here too! It depends where you go. Dan’s Hamburgers, Matt’s El Rancho, Weigle Ironworks BBQ, Cherry Creek Catfish, Catfish Parlor. For vegans or health nuts it’s Mr. Natural. Many good places to eat.

All of you newcomers have raised the costs of living so much it’s ridiculous.

Love watching your video and it brought back a lot of memories. I used to live in Austin from 1985 thru 1993 and worked in the banking business sector of downtown Austin. It was a blast everyday and the weekends were super. Austin used to be a destination thousands of people used to aspire of going to because of its beauty, nightlife, and eccentric way of living — that was back in the day though. Austin has now turned into a homeless and degenerate place to visit and thousands of people have moved their vacations to other parts of the state. The crime is unbelievable and the lawlessness has gown to such extent that even partying down town on 6th street is putting your life at risk for the crime and shootings down there. I hear that local politics has turned Austin into the city dump it is today. I will never go down to Austin again, way to dangerous to be in that city. Have a great time on your travels and be safe.

What is the best southern state you all have visit? We thought about outside Austin my husband and family will be relocating from MN. Hard to find a good place nowadays…especially with the injustice Thanks for the video ! We thought about Raleigh NC. the expressways looks very busy ! It looks beautiful, a friend of mine moved to Austin and she loves it, remind me of Minneapolis.

  9. Joan Leon on May 4, 2022 at 9:05 pm

There is a lot of bumper to bumper traffic on Austin highways, but just less because of C19 and many working from home. Lots of graffiti. I lived in L.A. over 50 years, been in TX 16 years, I can assure you Austin and all big TX cities are definitely on the path to L.A. status.

  10. TrippyGamez on May 4, 2022 at 9:05 pm

Bro the actual people from Austin seem so miserable that it is sad. I’ve never been around people so consumed with hatred in their hearts. Like I understand what’s going on but they take it too far. And if your black this may not be a place you want to live. Their is very little black culture. And I was very disappointed to see that the Hispanic community looks at everyone as less than them and are kinda more racist than the whites

  11. James Hallsy on May 4, 2022 at 9:05 pm

It’s like a demonic empty ghost town now, Not the old Austin I grew up with

  12. Ghost Rider on May 4, 2022 at 9:06 pm

I’ve lived in Austin for 12 years. When I moved here, the Frost Bank building was the tallest bldg in downtown. That’s how fast it’s grown. Also, you’d have been hard pressed to find a black person in the city, and especially in the suburbs, and if you did find one, they were Carlton black and probably a student. …..just saying…….in two years, the whole city evicted the artsy hipsters and musicians, and literally traded them for THE most ghetto lowlifes they could find. I do not understand what happene heyd but it happened in literally like a year, two years. Almost…….
    Almost like …….it was planned……..naaaah

  17. Cera Lee on May 4, 2022 at 9:14 pm

I live in nearby New Braunfels and I worked in Austin for five years basically. Austin is very unique within Texas, it is the liberal area surrounded by more conservative areas outside of San Marcos which is a very liberal college town. What Austin is known for in our area is the drivers, they are aggressive and they are fast and they are pretty much crazy LOL. It’s I-35 and it is the traffic that is always bumper to bumper pretty much outside of very small windows. Outside of Monday through Wednesday around 9 a.m. to 11 and then from around 2 to 3 you can drive pretty good on I-35 and Mopac, and in the evenings but if there is an event in town or if it’s just particularly full it’s bumper to bumper and forget about rush hour. Because of this drivers are very impatient and they are very discourteous to each other for being such a smaller City. I have to disagree with your tagline in regard to why are people moving here if you are moving because you are looking for a conservative type City, Austin is not the place for you. However, I am a conservative and I adore Austin, I love its energy, I love its eclectic nature, I love Congress Avenue and its vibe. No city is for everyone and if you do not spend time in the ATX you really cannot give a judgment like saying why are people moving here in fairness because I could say I don’t like Miami but that’s not fair of me to say because I’ve never stayed in Miami for an extended length of time. So it’s not for everyone, there are many in Texas who do not like Austin, but there are many of us who actually do love it even with it being so different.

  18. Joe Knight on May 4, 2022 at 9:16 pm

We in Texas say leave California there. You liberals have already destroyed one of the most beautiful places in the world, now you want to destroy Texas too with your insanity.

  19. Curtis Gunnarson on May 4, 2022 at 9:17 pm

Your driving down the wrong streets and judging the city too quickly. Austin is a great city with lots of natural beauty and an awesome food scene plus great music

I live in Georgetown and have lived in Austin and he didn’t even show the good parts of the city just the unscenic parts of downtown not the pretty skyline that does exist and then went to a dumpy part of town didn’t even go to the many nice parts of Austin proper or surrounding areas of the Austin metro such as zilker park mount bonnell etc… and he seems like a jerk the comments he made about other people radiates insecurity and so much negativity in this video smh don’t listen to this dude or this video austin metro is a beautiful area with lots to do etc… once again he barely showed austin or surrounding areas just a dumpy area and didn’t capture the scenic skyline etc… trust me a austin transplant millinial in medical field austin is fabulous and yes there are homeless but homeless are in all major cities not just here also georgetown where i live roundrock cedar park etc… all part of austin metro area even nicer cleaner and no homeless not that there’s anything wrong with them they’re human too this guy radiates small dick energy for days and negative vibes and his video doesnt even capture the true beauty of austin and surrounding areas because he didn’t film the majority of austin which is nice and surrounding lovely areas come see for yourself

  21. Richard Cogbill on May 4, 2022 at 9:20 pm

This was the most clueless driving tour with the most clueless commentary to match, but thanks anyway. It will probably keep a few people from moving here. At least you saw one positive thing, our public housing projects are most likely the safest and best managed in the country. They are pretty boring in terms of crime. Not much of any real gang problem in Austin. Can’t say the same about S.A. or Houston. I just have to say this was the worst waste of time. Good I skipped through most of it.

  22. Javier Martinez on May 4, 2022 at 9:21 pm

YOu drive the wrong streets the nice avenue is the one that gets straight to capitol and then U OF texas, then back to the river and all the parks around the river. its the river and parks the good part of it, going river up…you just messed in the wrong places, its weird because with little research you get the point 6th street in the night…..river in the afternoon,…

  23. Lilman Yellow on May 4, 2022 at 9:22 pm

From Palm Beach County, moved here to Austin a year ago because we wanted change. Counting the days until my fiancĂ© can transfer us back. It’s so depressing here and the food scene is terrible. It’s like they put so much emphasis on trying to make things looks “cool/hipster” from the outside, but where it counts misses the mark. Glad you and Katie got to see it for yourselves though.

  27. CM V on May 4, 2022 at 9:25 pm

This is a terrible video. I’ve never even been to Austin, so I have no opinion on the city either way. Still, you need to get out of your car and experience the city in order to make a true judgment. Like any city, there must be many areas the average person won’t see just by riding around on the interstate and a few small streets.

  28. Barry Risper on May 4, 2022 at 9:25 pm

I’ve lived in Austin. I went to high school not far from it. I spent the last of my 20s in ATX as well. It’s a nice city, but it IS overrated. Great food spots IFKYK, crime was never TOO crazy and a nice art/party scene. It’s LA lite.

This is exactly what people who live in Texas always ask, why are people moving to Austin. Houston, San Antonio, hell even Dallas are better than Austin. Austin, used to be cool back before every big tech company to open up shop there.

Take this video down! You two are some of the most negative people to visit Austin. Looking for grandmas Mexican Tacos & Martin Luther King street? Why look for the ghetto? Bland??? WHY are YOU even posting about our city? At least, Google what is popular so you can see the sights. Take this video down! YOU do not belong here if you are looking for crime! Every comment was negative! Why don’t you go out to a regular restaurant & Google the main streets, you missed it by a long shot! You didn’t even get the skyline right
in the back of a blocking Semi truck? You are right, you don’t belong here! You didn’t even show the downtown area, the capital, Congress Avenue? I find it interesting that you somehow knew your way around & mentioned Mueller but didn’t visit it, also did not eat at Black’s Bar-b-que? This is the Best city to live in & you have single handedly decided to visit and trash it!? Austin, is a positive vibing, culturally diverse & inclusive city
..The music capital of the world! If you don’t know, now you know! Eat a Taco & get out of town!

I just moved from Austin to Florida I was their for 3 years. It was okay in my opinion, it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t diverse enough, it didn’t have what I was looking for, I enjoyed Houston and Dallas more. However, I will say that I have grown financially. My girl and I are doing better for ourselves, because of the opportunities that Austin, Texas had.

  40. kristina alexander on May 4, 2022 at 9:41 pm

The homeless community is like that because the downtown area the Eastside is where the urban community lived the area has been taken from us by outsiders and that is the result dont come in with no knowledge of the situation…please stick to talking about buildings and hihgways

  41. Tha Juan on May 4, 2022 at 9:41 pm

I was born and raised in Austin Tx, and Lol I can’t believe y’all went trough Booker T Housing projects! Yes you are right it is becoming a town without a soul as we get flooded with people from California. The Homeless scene has really took off and shows no sign of stopping. I will say Y’all went the wrong direction and should have continued west. East Austin was a dominantly Hispanic and Black community that has been decimated by the growth of Austin and the taxes that have came with it. So it is being gentrified more and more with each day that passes. People from Austin do not recognize Austin anymore it has already became California. Especially y’all went through downtown which we True Austinite’s are calling Crane City. So the only place that remains even close to the same as it was is good old Barton Springs its very beautiful. I can understand your disappointment in my city as I am disappointed in it as well. Our Traffic is ridiculous and the crime rate is climbing through the roof. It is a crazy thing to witness. Safe travel friends I enjoyed your video! LOL Booker T. Projects oh y’all are lucky y’all went on a calm day or you would have thought you were in Compton, and would have been in danger seriously.

  42. Chappey on May 4, 2022 at 9:44 pm

Talking bad on others shows your character i lived in Austin for 12 years and it was some of the best times of my life. If you’re going to show a City show the city don’t talk bad on the people that live there. This video ruined me on watching your others. You also can’t go into a city and act like you own it you are driving in a walking lane you’re in the wrong. Thats how some get to work in that big City you’re not working in, respect the people that live there everyday rather than talk shit to them or on them for YOU being in the walking lane.

  43. Bankroll . on May 4, 2022 at 9:46 pm

Lmfao i can’t do nothin but laugh. y’all didn’t go out at night when everyone is outside and walking around, the food is good no matter where you go. you don’t need to be in the hood for good food and if you were wanting to go to the hood you should have went to montopolisđŸ€Ł on top of that the driver is crying like a little bitch the whole time LMFAO. Didn’t even go to 6th street either.

  44. Jorge Becerra on May 4, 2022 at 9:47 pm

My husband was raised in Austin. He is a Marine. I’m from Minnesota. He said I want to move you to Texas. I said ok what is Austin like? He said oh hell no we are not moving to Austin. We will be poor. We moved elsewhere in Texas. If we moved into Austin into a home that we live in now we would have to be a millionaire. Nobody joins the military to get rich. Austin has gone down the toilet.

  49. JOSEPH VELA on May 4, 2022 at 9:52 pm

Austin has way more to offer than shown in this video but in my opinion the surrounding towns and hill country have much better scenery and cool stuff to see and do. Austin is great but it’s not the same as the small town culture found in places surrounding it. I absolutely love places like buda, wimberly and marble falls!
