How to grip a gaming mouse for best aim potential

How to grip a gaming mouse for best aim potential

I switched from palm grip to fingertip grip and noticed a big improvement in aim, especially because I could use smaller mice. It’s something that takes a long while to adjust to, so I would recommend people using palm or claw palm give it a try.

Also note on that point with the fingers raised off the mouse … the higher they are, the longer they have to travel, so the “slower” your latency times are going to be. That’s like playing with a higher ping!

This is a casual chat video, trying something new. Sound quality isn’t like the others because I was using a small microphone plugged directly into the camera.

Hopefully it’s ok!

For palm grip, for it to be properly effective you need to use your full arm to aim, mixing in alongside of wrist movements. Doing this fixes the issue of vertical adjustments, as well as helps with longer movements for lower sensitivities.

Eventhough this video is kinda old, what you said about palm grippers – I hit a fairly high rank as Widow/Tracer in Overwatch; 4410 SR. I’ve never really experimented with grips but I just like it because it feels easier to move my mouse around.

edit: The mouse I have is Logitech G Pro Wireless with Tiger Arc Mouse Feet

I topped Tfues Score in Jumbo Tile Frenzy with palm grip.

I use a sort of palm grip with my G Pro Wireless and I’d say my aim is pretty dirty. I get around rank 200+ in kovaaks and hit GM in overwatch as a hitscan main.

I can definitely aim very good with palm but I’m more of a mixture of claw and palm

  7. Jingals on October 25, 2019 at 7:13 pm

I use a 1-3-1 grip (mainly cause i play fortnite and have 2 scroll wheel functions) but i feel like nothing changed with my aim when i switched to that, i wonder if i’d improve if i switched back to a more traditional style of grip. Anyone whose played with both grip styles have any tips?

I have the Logitech G502 and i use the claw grip for years now. The most importend thing is… just hold your mouse the way YOU are confortable with. The same goes for dpi and ingame sensitivity. I cant understand how people always run with Settings that pros have. These Settings work for THEM. Sure you can always try new tweaks and settings but changing them all the time will not build the musclememory you need to truly master the battlefield 😉

what if zy is related to csgo zywoo 0o0

  10. Cameron Liu on October 25, 2019 at 7:17 pm

Zy, I play csgo just for fun with palm grip and use the GPW, and my aim isn’t as good as the pros, but my aim is definitely better than my friends, who play palm and fingertip.

  11. LEMSDK on October 25, 2019 at 7:18 pm

As I hear it fingertip is the most agile of the 3 but at the cost of accuracy which is why none of the former pros I know ever used fingertip. Claw and palm were the most used where palm was the most accurate but least agile. Claw was in the middle of the two. I my self have been a palm user for decades and used it when playing the national team. However for the palm grip to work you need huge mouse area as you move your entire arm. Mouse pads were too small back then so I didn’t use one. Casual af palm grip play for me but I could send you a clip of it

when i heard you say "dafran" i lost it

  13. Personelll0 Osu on October 25, 2019 at 7:19 pm

Only evidence I have to counter the palm grip argument are 2 Overwatch players – RyuJehong and JJonak both play with very low sensitivity and palm their mice (to my knowledge). They both have pretty nutty aim.

  14. Zippie FN on October 25, 2019 at 7:22 pm

i can aim amazingly with palm 🙂

  15. Leo Vuong on October 25, 2019 at 7:23 pm

i think the palm/claw should be more classified as a "relaxed claw", yes u rest ur palm on the base of the mouse but i feel like claw is more defined to as how ur thumb and pink/ring finger look like on the two side of the mouse, if its curled then most likely it is claw. palm/claw to me is more like when people have straight thumb on the side and straight pinky/ring finger on the other but decide to curl up their mouse1/2.

what kind of mouse feet/skate did you guys use? Teflon or ceramic? on a hard surface or cloth? for FPS.

  18. Frank_OW on October 25, 2019 at 7:27 pm

I was a full palm gripper because it always game me more control and I track more than flick (lightning gun in quake and soldier zarya tracer in ow) but now with that new grip I can basically move freely whenever and then switch to anchoring my resting my palm and that gives me more control than palm grip, now I want an ambi mouse… my wallet keeps crying

6:00 instuctions unclear, using toegrip now

    to be serious,
1: 5:50 whats the diff between palm-claw and just claw,
he said 5:59 claw grip, but im confused on how it is actually fingertip, not claw.
How i see claw grip is just palm but fingers in claw (zy calls it palm-claw) and i see fingertip as his claw grip

  20. Deadly Jedly on October 25, 2019 at 7:29 pm

    Hey RocketJumpNinja!
I use palm grip as its comfortable for me during long streams.
I used to play claw but i got rsi issues in my wrist.

Once finding the perfect combination of palm grip with wrist and arm movement, palm grip can be great for aiming.
Currently looking ta getting the mm710 based on your video, as I am currently using the Steel series Sensei

Can you recommend me a mouse that is more wide than the G502 Hero? It makes my hand cramp when I hold it because its not quite wide enough.

Hey Mr Mouse Man, The Logitech G Pro Wireless was perfect for me until I bought one, started using it, and TWO things leave me terribly disappointed in my purchase at the moment.

    1) It’s starting to double click on single presses and I haven’t found a fix for this. This absolutely ruins my battle royale / competitive experience with this mouse. Can you provide any advice on this?
    2) The mouse mouse is TOO LIGHT. I cannot find a mouse pad that is smooth but has enough grip to not feel like i’m trying to aim on ICE. The Zowie GSR is the closest I have gotten so far, but it collects dust and after a while loses the smooth feel, which affects my aim too! Do you have any mouse pad suggestions or something to increase the weight of this great and disappointing mouse?

Please reply and thanks in advance!

  25. A. Y. on October 25, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Zy, something to consider regarding anchors points. Higher sensitivity wrist aimers tend to have their wrist/lower palm serve as an anchor point. Low sensitivity players commonly use their forearm as an anchor point instead. If you tried to predominately aim with your arm and use your wrist as an anchor point there would be too much drag and friction to accomplish this seamlessly. So the anchor point changes based on context, but it still exists.

Edit: Also, the mouse wheel is one reference guide for finger placement, but so are the side buttons. I find that if my thumb is misaligned with the side buttons then I have to adjust my grip to access them during game, which can throw my aim off. In fact, a good indicator that a mouse is properly sized for my hand is that I can comfortably access the side buttons and the mouse wheel simultaneously instead of prioritizing one at the expense of the other, as I found myself doing when I used smaller mice such as the original G Pro.

I used 1-3-1 for around 2 years before I forced myself to start using 1-2-2. 1-3-1 has poor control over the mouse and I don’t recommend it.

I use fingertip grip, its what ive always used since i used my Windows XP years ago. It just always felt the most comfortable. But when gaming mice started coming out, my thumb became a problem because i have my thumb tip resting on the mouse, i dont have it laying flat, so the thumb was just below the side back button and i couldnt reach the front side button. So when i found the Razer Hex V2, i havent used another mouse since. On that mouse the side buttons go around the thumb, with 7 little tiny buttons and i think its the best mouse so far for fingertip grip mice.

I use 400 Dpi and 1.6 in-game sens in CSGO. I also use a palm grip. Low sensitivity players tend to be not affected by using palm grip (because we move our whole arm to do everything anyway.) while high sensitivity players use claw grip usually. You can see pro CS:GO players using this such as friberg from NiP.

Hey guys, I was an old skool Steelseries Kinzu V2 user for long time, switched to Zowie ec2-b 6 months ago. The ec2-b’s sensor is absolutely perfect but i don’t feel comfortable with ec2-b because of the shape. I think it is kinda big for me even it’s not a big mouse. I mean the mouse feels too much FAT for me to grip and control (Fills my hand too much). I remember that i was feeling too much comfortable with Kinzu V2 but the old sensor. My grip style is kinda hybrid between Claw and Fingertip. And my hand size are 18,5 – 10,5 cm. So guys any advice? Do you think that Zowie S2 works for me?

Could you try paracors the mm710 and tell us the results

  48. Viv1d on October 25, 2019 at 8:01 pm

A lot of these tips will only work for a specific aiming style: wrist aiming. I wrist aim and I found the video helpful and informative, but if you are arm aiming some of the tips will not work, such as resting the bottom of you palm on the mat for control, I recommend you watch “Ron Rambo Kim’s” video on the different aiming styles, and adjust your grip based on what works for you, it’s good to have some idea of what to do, but there is no secret that works for everyone.

Friberg uses Palm grip (as I am sure there are multiple other CS pros) so idk if thats a hard rule. Still think what works for you is good. I notice if i think too much about my grip I aim significantly worse.
