I live in the North West. Our winters are very cold and dry. I purchased a small inexpensive humidistat at WalMart, to keep on the counter in the center of our home.
By increasing the humidity of your home in the winter to the comfort zone ( typically 35-55% humidity ) the heat will hold on to the moisture in the air and result in your furnace turning on less. For me, it turned on every half hour instead of every 10 minutes.
Also, reverse your ceiling fan and push the warm air down from the ceiling.

Do your laundry outside of peak electrical hours. So, late at night when there is not a huge demand for electricity. The electric companies charge less during these hours so you can save money this way as well.

Our electric bill is 700 dollars a month for the past 4 months, 5 years in a row it only happens during winter time. We have solar water heater, we don’t ever run any space heaters or anything because we can’t afford it. All my circuit breakers are good, how is our electric bill 700$ monthly? It’s constant and we use same amount of kilowatt hours while we sleep than during the day which is impossible. Can someone please help me? I don’t make that much money, SDGE will not help us, my family is paying the price and I’m out of options. What is sucking the energy in my house?

Actually, you should set thermostat to 58 winter while in bed and 82 summer in daytime but go topless. When outside temperatures are within that range, or if leaving home, just shut off the HVAC entirely. This will save an estimated 93% on top of your method, and 99.97% conpared to wasteful users.

  28. CeruleanSky on April 18, 2020 at 11:06 am

What about places where the nights on average only go down to 80 degrees F. Wouldn’t it use more energy to turn down the thermostat at night?

  29. marquetta washington on April 18, 2020 at 11:08 am

My bill went from $178 to 31.86 ($24.50 is administrative fee). I turned off the porch light, garage light. All electronics are on a surge protector and are turned off when I am away from the house and when I am sleeping. I turned off my range and dishwasher. I don’t have a microwave and uses a 2 plate burner. I just flick the switch on the electric box when I want to use the stove and dishwasher. In the winter I use a heated mattress pad and only run the heat when I am getting dressed in the AM. It’s amazing how much money I have save. I still have to change out the light bulbs. It will be interesting to see how much difference the bulbs will make.

HI Pan. your video was interesting so i would like to ask you one question. buying electric device with high watts save electricity? Like a Vacuum Cleaner with 700 watts..

  31. Arnold Bass on April 18, 2020 at 11:09 am

If your trying to save money keep your lights off and turn the ac off in get a fan

  32. 00crashtest on April 18, 2020 at 11:11 am

SMUD in Sacramento is so unfair. I used just $8.98 in electricity costs last month but had to pay the base $20.30 on top of that, meaning I paid over 3 times of what I used.

An example will be a tv you have in another room you leave plugged in. In the off position it uses 13 watts. Times 24 hours times 30 days = 9,360 wasted watts. Add more items wasting power really adds up. Power strips will end that problem.

I used to just turn every breaker off in the house but keep only my bedroom on

  45. ushillbillies on April 18, 2020 at 11:26 am

Our washer and drier are all in one , it does the same size load on 1/3 of the water , plugs into 120 v outlet and has no exhaust vent and only draws 12 amps at full load , so our solar system will do it., its made by LG and its amazing , I will wash and dry but we use a clothes line ..

  46. Emanuel S. on April 18, 2020 at 11:26 am

Actually If your filter is dirty you use less electricity. Dirty filters impede airflow to the motor, thus your air handling motor works without a load. Your motor might get hot and cause other issues but from your point of you it draws less amps.

  47. Frank Lopez on April 18, 2020 at 11:27 am

You don’t need 72 I’m in summer in Miami brother, keep it at 77 and at bight we bring it down to 75 because it’s hitting 89/90 🥵 degrees therefore, the house has absorbed the days heat so the 75 will balance the temperature of the house and you will have a cool 😎 night 💤 sleep. And when you leave for multiple hours just shut off the AC completely! And turn it on when you return.
