Video by the AAA Foundation: https://newsroom.aaa.com/2015/03/distraction-teen-crashes-even-worse-thought/

“The unprecedented video analysis finds that distraction was a factor in nearly 6 out of 10 moderate-to-severe teen crashes, which is four times as many as official estimates based on police reports.

Researchers analyzed the six seconds leading up to a crash in nearly 1,700 videos of teen drivers taken from in-vehicle event recorders. The results showed that distraction was a factor in 58 percent of all crashes studied, including 89 percent of road-departure crashes and 76 percent of rear-end crashes.”

    Teenage Speed Demons! Why in my day it was thrilling enough to navigate the automobile at 37 miles per hour. One time my gal Matilda alerted me to the fact that my Speed – O – Meter was registering the breakneck velocity of 39 miles per hour. It was at that point that I realized that I was caught up in the moment while listening to Lawrence Welk on the wireless and realized that I was loopy on the Kool Aid that I had consumed at the sock hop.

    The problem is I have become a passionate follower of "Audit the Audits" type of youtube videos where you stand your ground if your Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms are being violated, so when I do get stopped, the Canadian cop will have the police dog on me sniffing, he’ll be looking for a bald tire on my car because I will divulge absolutely nothing when asked questions they do not pertain to my traffic stop. Too many people do not realize that when a cop stops you and asks you run-of-the-mill questions, he is not polite, he is in the process of interrogating you, looking for any "slip" in your answers to legally justify taking the stop to the next level. So when I get stopped next time, I’m in for a hell of a hard time, and I know people will say "why don’t you just let the Officer violate your rights so you can be on your way?" and that says it all right there. The laws here have been changed so that Cops can now make a fortune from honest people while driving, which is distracted driving laws. I can be fined $235 CAD dollars for the first offense in Canada IF I do any of the following: smoke, eat, fix my hair, adjust the radio, touch my GPS, touch my dashcam, looking at a paper map, play music, changing songs, TALKING TO PASSENGERS, touch phone, not knowing my speed at all time and a few more. If a cop pulls you over in Canada and says "Do you know what speed you were going?" and you say you do not know because you don’t want to admit you were speeding, he hits you with a $235 CAD dollar fine for distracted driving because the new law says you MUST know your speed at all time, so remember, its a GOLDMINE for cops in Canada. It is a known fact, a proven fact by the News agencies far and wide that cops are trapping people left and right to make this money. I was driving to work one day at a busy intersection where I noticed a cop in uniform in an apartment building window watching for people on their phone, no seatbelt, eating, smoking so he could then radio license plates to the cop cars waiting up the road. I have seen 10 police cars in a row just like a taxi stand all waiting to pull out and ticket people because the money is so easy to make for the cops. Think that sounds bad, well in Canada there was a bum standing on the road with a sign that said as a joke " I have a job, I don’t need money" … kinda funny because he was making light of the fact he’s a bum, so at the traffic lights a guy sees him while he’s stopped for the red light, takes off he seat belt, reaches into his back pocket for his wallet and gives the bum a $10 dollar bill, the bum shows his badge and writes the guy a $200+ ticket for driving with no seat belt, greasy greasy greasy. Here is the link to that story to show there’s no bullshitting going on in this comment.
    https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/man-ticketed-after-handing-change-to-cop-posing-as-panhandler-1.2940070

    ALSO, I would like to explain that the distracted fines vary from province to province in Canada, while it may only be $235 CAD dollars for distracted driving in Nova Scotia, it is $615 to $1000 in Ontario and other province’s but the fine is a whopping $5000 CAD dollars in Nunavut, the whole province of Nunavut can fine you the price of a second-hand CAR for talking to your Mother in the front seat of your car, let that sink in. Here is the link to prove that:

    Don’t even get me started on STUNT DRIVING laws and fines but I’ll show you why this has gone nuts. Have you ever "brake checked" a car behind you because he’s following too close. Americans do it all the time, so people in Canada have a habit of doing it also, but for the cops to make a shitload of money, they now call brake checking stunting, look at (g) subsection (II) where it says intentionally stopping or slowing of traffic.

    DEFINITION OF "CONTEST" OR "RACE"

    In subsection 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, “contest” or “race” means a situation in which a person does any of the following:

    (a) drives a motor vehicle at a speed above the lawful rate of speed in a manner that indicates that the driver is engaged in a competition;
    (b) drives a motor vehicle in a manner that indicates the intent to chase another vehicle;
    (c) drives a motor vehicle at a speed above the lawful rate of speed to outdistance or attempt to outdistance 1 or more other vehicles;
    (d) drives a motor vehicle at a speed above the lawful rate of speed and repeatedly changes lanes in close proximity to 1 or more other vehicles.

    In subsection 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, “stunt” means any of the following actions:

    (a) attempting to lift all or some of a vehicle’s tires from the surface of the highway, other than when using lift axles on a commercial motor vehicle;
    (b) attempting to spin or circle a vehicle without maintaining control of the vehicle;
    (c) driving on the portion of the highway designated for use by oncoming traffic for longer than necessary to overtake 1 or more other vehicles;
    (d) driving with a person in the trunk of the vehicle;
    (e) driving from a position in a vehicle other than the designated driver’s seat;
    (f) driving 50 km/h or more above the lawful rate of speed;
    (g) driving without due care or attention, reasonable consideration for others on the highway or in a manner that may endanger other persons, including any of the following:
    (i) driving in a manner that indicates an intention to prevent another vehicle from passing safely,
    (ii) stopping or slowing in a manner that indicates an intention to interfere with the movement of another vehicle,
    (iii) driving as close as possible to another vehicle, a pedestrian, or a fixed object.
    (iv) making a left turn at an intersection controlled by traffic control signals immediately after the signal facing the vehicle changes to solid green and before a vehicle that was stopped facing a red light in the opposite direction is able to proceed straight th[r]ough the intersection.
    —————————————————————————————————————–
    Stunt driving tickets have serious penalties that can affect your ability to drive, insurance rates, and your employment, including:

    six (6) demerit points
    seven (7) day license suspension
    seven (7) day vehicle impoundment (towing and impound fees equals $2000.00 dollars)
    fine of two thousand ($2,450.00) dollars
    license suspension of up to two years upon conviction
    imprisonment up to six (6) months
    a dramatic increase in insurance rates

    Very concerning is their very common delusion that "I don’t need to observe cell phone restrictions while driving because I can multi-task", as though they have some newly developed human ability to fully focus on both driving a vehicle and looking down at their cell phone. That and the teen penchant for prioritizing the phone over everything else.

    There is no way in the world I could look away from the road that long. When I was Starting to drive, I was afraid of getting in a car accident. My eyes stayed on the road all the time. My parents did not want to add me on their insurance because of the spike they would get. So, I got a job, paid my own insurance. Never had an accident as a teen. As an adult, I have had only 2 and I want to keep it that way. Both times, the other driver was at fault. 1st one, dude was on the right side of my car and decided to pop a u turn in front of me. I tried to prevent it, but it was damn near impossible. 2nd one just happened. I was headed to work, left the house a little early that morning. HALF a mile away from the house, this lady pulls out of a neighborhood in a big ass yukon xl, and knocks my little sentra into a raised median. she tried to lie to first responders telling them I was behind her and tried to go around. Thank God this is america and they seen right through her bs, and the accident itself was a no brainer. MY CAR GOT TOTALED 1 MONTH BEFORE IT WAS GOING TO BE PAID OFF!!! GRRRRRRR. but thank God I am okay. my car lost its life, not me.

  45. Ivan Sanders on January 1, 2022 at 1:01 pm

    It’s not just teens. Being gifted their vehicle promotes carelessness. I gifted my ex a 4-litre Jaguar and shortly afterwards she reversed out of our driveway whilst putting on her makeup and chatting with her daughter – straight into a car parked across the road. My first wife flattened a petrol pump with a high seat / great visibility Jeep. Maybe I only secured wives because of sight defects? Guide dogs may have been more appropriate gifts?

    These are the little bastards that will hit you and kill your children and drive off and only worry about the lie they will make up to explain the wrecked car. Most likely they will leave it somewhere and report it stolen. Good news is they will go to prison for a long time.
