The Hype Over Quantum Computers, Explained

The Hype Over Quantum Computers, Explained

In October 2019, Google made a big announcement. It announced its 53-qubit quantum computer named Sycamore had achieved ‘quantum supremacy.’ That’s when quantum computers can complete tasks exponentially more quickly than their classical counterparts. In this case, Google said its quantum machine completed a task in 200 seconds that would have taken the world’s most powerful computer 10,000 years to complete. IBM, another major player in quantum computing, took issue with the findings. Either way, it was a big milestone in quantum computing, and it’s leading to a lot of hype in the field. Here’s how quantum computing works, and how it could change everything from Wall Street to Big Pharma and beyond.

so you saying i can ask it what is the ultimate question about life, the universe and everything and it won’t say 42?

In before the AI we are making helps us out, making Quantum Computing an astounding accomplishment…
With the AI eventually gaining self awareness and judging humanity as unnecessary.

Why would you want to represent a coffee molecule or any molecule on a computer? what’s the use?

  12. Thomas Grande on June 29, 2020 at 7:44 pm

Duhhhh just make a quantum app.

  13. Time Vortex on June 29, 2020 at 7:45 pm

Can quantum computers do simple thing as count? Let me give you test.
    (1=Infinity, what is infinity=?)
It’s the number of quantum possibilities. If it can’t count them then it’s not worth calling it quantum.

  14. Lord Fnord on June 29, 2020 at 7:45 pm

Severe understatement: at around 9:40 this guy Aaronson says he has ingested billions of molecules of caffeine and then corrects himself to trillions. Uh rather more. A cup of coffee runs around 1/2000th of a mole of caffeine, which gets you up into the hundreds of trillions of trillions of molecules. So he’s off by maybe fourteen orders of magnitude. Give or take.
So IBM’s "2.5 days, not 10,000 years" is a modest sort of correction in the sorts of error these folks deal in…

Ok I understand quantum computing now. Quantum computers are big coffee makers. I do’t know I am watching this now and it’s kinda late , I am a little sleepy so I may be wrong.

We need to understand that Wall St are scamming currency from ordinary people. Their money making systems now go beyond their original purpose of providing business finance. We need to ask questions on how the banking world can be retasked and limited in traditional areas of trading. So CNBC, NO we dont need Wall St using quantum computer technology to take ordinary peoples money and widen the wealth gap.

Sycamore has 54 qubits, not 53 as mentioned in the report!
During Google’s experiment to demonstrate quantum supremacy, one of the qubits didn’t work, so it ended up working with 53 instead of 54

i dont understand something, would anyone mind explaining ?
in 8:00-8:15 he says that its cooled to about 0,01s of a degree over absolute zero and the video shows -273,28°
i thought the absolute zero is -273,15° ?

Never use virtual simulation to understand reality. Use it to find the best answers, not predictions. Like Fusion energy. 😁

Tech nic ally U Could time tra vel to see what’s past us and what’s ahead of us first in a room visual state and later build quantum super computers as big as planets in the galaxies to really time travel in person. Ahhhhhhhh🙂🙃 Yeeeaaahh

I have a quantum toaster at home.
The toasts don’t jump out of it.
    They just… stay there.

    Everything is so much cooler
when you put quantum in front of it…
