You want to be careful with that. I’ve heard that Bestbuy has a Taser to break anything that would take too long to fix.

  2. BigMarks Repair Video's on June 11, 2022 at 8:32 am

Awesome Video, great job letting the people know

  3. Sorest on June 11, 2022 at 8:37 am

For people saying it is fine what they did… no, it is not fine. You don’t say a GPU is dead when you haven’t confirmed if it was. That can lure the customer into a buying a new expensive GPU or wait for a long asss RMA process when they infact have a fully working GPU. Even if it is free they do more damage than good with that misdiagnosis.

They should have done this: "Hey dude, it looks like it is a graphics related issue, we don’t know for sure without further testing. If you want we can keep looking into it but will charge you for it".

That’s how you handle it, not misdiagnosing it after 10 minutes, sending the customer home with a nonworking system that had a super easy fault and luring them into thinking their GPU is dead and they need to get a new one. Sorry but that’s just shitty.

Sometimes no pic. i clean the graphic card with and eraser or clean the ram or check the bios battery

  5. Stealth email on June 11, 2022 at 8:37 am

They didn’t diagnose it correctly but they didn’t hit you with a fee. That’s good. But the thing that impressed me the most was that they didn’t try to sell you another video card. They didn’t take the time to get it right, but they weren’t an evil store ripping people off. Some places would have charged for the diagnosis, sold you another card and sold your card to someone else. Could have been worse.

  6. Ernest Mccollum on June 11, 2022 at 8:40 am

Geek Squad sucks, but I guess depends which one.

  7. Mr L on June 11, 2022 at 8:41 am

If they didnt check it in then an actual repair agent didn’t look at it, Would have done way more diags, replaced graphics card, fixed cables, new power suuply… cmon man SLANDER

  8. Thomas Mullins on June 11, 2022 at 8:43 am

I think this was such a weird problem that most techs wouldn’t suspect it. Completely tearing down a PC a rebuilding it takes a hour at least and they were just trying to avoid charging. Yes, they got the wrong diagnosis but these cables don’t just come unplugged. If they are plugged in you nearly have to break the connector just to get them off.

They probably even plugged in a gpu to test and it was not requiring a extended power connector. If they had gone to actually replace the card with something comparable they would have failed and then probably thought the PSU was bad. At that point they would have either discovered the issue or simply resolved it with the new psu. Rather or not they would have tried the OG GPU is unknown.

Can diagnostic test using a device for a vehicle to identify what’s wrong with it but not easy to find it on a PC is screwy to me this day and age.

As an artist I must say I like your animations…..🤠

  12. Sgt.GreenBean on June 11, 2022 at 8:47 am

I want to see if the Geek Squad has improved, because in all honesty, we probably know more about trouble shooting our own PC’s we built better than the Geek Squad.

  13. Torben Twiefel on June 11, 2022 at 8:49 am

    Just clickbait, shotty test.

  14. Zuzo's corner on June 11, 2022 at 8:50 am

Really, shold have just unseated ram test sort of thing.

I’ve worked as a computer repair technician for about 5 years now. I’m the store manager at a computer repair store in canberra australia that has been running for about 10 years. I am certified in networking and qualified in system administration and project management.
This isn’t that common of an issue to get in but I have had it a couple of times. What we will charge is $80 (our minimum store charge) or a maximum of $120 depending if the cabling is a pain or not. That is AUD

How the largest companies work in ausralia (geeks2u as an example) from what I hear, is they find someone who is repairing computers on their own, they then say to them, we will give you clients if you give us a cut. So what happens these "technicians" will then go to the person’s house, then they do what work they think the computer needs, charge what they want (mostly charging elderly hundreds). Geeks2u will enforce no standards or procedures.

The person who would have been checking your computer is most likely just underskilled and rushed it, it’s very easy to plug in a card and see that it works, then say the card wasn’t working (By easy I mainly mean it’s an easy thing to miss). With experience he should know it’s quite rare for the graphics card to be the issue, out of the literally hundreds of desktops I fix, it has only been the graphics card a couple of times. (Most jobs are laptops because laptops are such horrible things)

im watching this video and i just stoped… IS THAT THIEVES HAVEN! hehe

  17. darkracer125 on June 11, 2022 at 8:55 am

i wonder if someone watched this. and went. "hmm. that’s exactly what my pc does." checked the cable. and actually fixed their pc.

  18. Can Head on June 11, 2022 at 8:55 am

A while ago a drink had spilled on my pc, directly onto the graphics card, and everything would turn on, but there was no video output, and when you put in the graphics card nothing would turn on

  19. Draynged on June 11, 2022 at 8:56 am

Best part would’ve let them install a new GPU, because it still wouldn’t have worked….lol

  20. Rob Whitmore on June 11, 2022 at 8:57 am

I’d love to know Greg’s steps to check when he does a Fix or Flop with a PC with these symptoms.
I’ve seen him go through a few PCs with no display out and ive never seen him check this. I think the light up logo on the GPU would have thrown me

  21. gfxmaniac on June 11, 2022 at 8:58 am

    or use voltmeter.

  22. blueridgeocean on June 11, 2022 at 8:59 am

I only use geek squad for replacement protection on monitors

  23. Demirkan Arifoğlu on June 11, 2022 at 9:00 am

People been saying they did a good job but they really didnt. First off, they didnt try the graphics card on another pc. Secondly, they didnt try any other graphics card on this pc to make sure its the graphics card and not the pci-e slot. So I’d say they totaly misinformed, and they wouldve cost him maybe another 400-500 bucks in order to *do them a favour*

  24. Adrian Salinas on June 11, 2022 at 9:00 am

I work at a geek squad and I honestly think I would’ve done the same. The reason why I would’ve done the same is because if the computer wasn’t posting, I would’ve assumed the gpu. I would’ve offered a diagnosis though but I would’ve said “it may go back into the graphics card. If you would like to do this, send this card out to the manufacturer to get it RMA’d then bring it back if it isn’t working and then we can get you help. I really don’t want to charge you for something that I believe it may be the graphics card. If you would like to have us look into it, it would be 100 for diagnosis and that won’t even get the issue fixed. Spend 50 dollars more and we will get you a one time fix if it is something else than a dead component. If it’s a dead component then it would be 150+ a new component”

  25. SarcasticManChild on June 11, 2022 at 9:00 am

If they’re working at geek squad most likely they aren’t very knowledgeable. Now There is that 1 in a thousand that knows stuff but they are few and far between

  26. Khaotic Penguin on June 11, 2022 at 9:01 am

I know you’re saying super simple but I’ve never once seen you or other YouTube tech channels look for cables unplugged.

  27. Neo Natal on June 11, 2022 at 9:02 am

They would think RAM first not GPU

  28. SpookyGhostBoi on June 11, 2022 at 9:03 am

To be fair… I overqualified for geek squad (because that’s a thing I guess) and I don’t really know crap about computers… So if that says anything. Don’t go to geek squad.

  29. Simon on June 11, 2022 at 9:04 am

Actually had this exact thing happen. I was changing some cables out on my PSU and one of the 8 pin PCIE cables came loose from the PSU side. Almost fainted when I rebooted a few times but still no post. Luckily the GPU has some red leds on it that tell you if power is not hooked up properly as well as the EZ debug led I have on the board. GPU lit up and fans were spinning but no post. I will never buy another board without the EZ debug display on it.

    Love this series BTW.

  30. Daniel Del Aguaro on June 11, 2022 at 9:05 am

I did this 5 years ago. Same thing. I see nothing has changed with geek squad.

  31. waltersmitty on June 11, 2022 at 9:05 am

You say towards the end, "They told us to buy another graphics card" but they didn’t. They told you to check the serial number and possibly have it replaced free by the manufacturer.

  32. SOLO FOUROHSIX GAMING on June 11, 2022 at 9:05 am

Just imagine how many people have bought a Brand New graphics card, due to laziness from the person diagnosing a PC improperly, when they didn’t need to.

  33. MrPumpkin Pumpkins! on June 11, 2022 at 9:07 am

sad that you cant even trust your local repair man anymore :/

  34. Duke Nukem on June 11, 2022 at 9:07 am

They should have fixed it and then up charged for things that weren’t broken lol

  35. Dragonface on June 11, 2022 at 9:08 am

Lmao Geek Squad lost my laptop and refuses to do anything about it, so I definitely don’t recommend them.

  36. Jeremy Pilot on June 11, 2022 at 9:09 am

Check that Florida law. If they have cctv and there is a sign stating you are being filmed then by default they can’t say they’re not knowing they’re being filmed audio is a different story

  37. sadek kouz on June 11, 2022 at 9:10 am

you are just wasting other people time !

  38. Ron S on June 11, 2022 at 9:10 am

Didn’t sound like they were actively trying to upsell you. If I had to guess, for whatever reason, they just didn’t want to deal with that issue that day. Busy with other stuff I guess?
Like others have said, the level of service you get is going to depend on what store you go to and that store’s policies.

  39. Royal Blues on June 11, 2022 at 9:11 am

It’s important to note, they’ll spend more time if you schedule an appointment. Walk in diagnostics are very often a quick overlook and free of charge without repair.

Although the Best Buy in my town has monitors they plug your PC into at the desk so you both can talk over the problem while seeing it.

  40. Bean Taco on June 11, 2022 at 9:11 am

    Weeb squad

  41. Greg Salazar on June 11, 2022 at 9:11 am

ADD: A few of you seem to think we "agreed" to a 10-minute, _free_ diagnosis. This was not the case. We would have given them the time and money they asked for. Kyle literally had my business debit card in his pocket. Instead, Geek Squad took the system back, rushed to misdiagnose it, and sent us on our way. They never offered to keep it longer and take a closer look.

Sorry about not being able to gather any footage inside! Florida two-party consent laws limited our options. Next time, we’ll try something in a state where one-party consent laws exist. I also hope you appreciated my subtle country accents during the reenactment. This is the South, after all 😂

  42. GRAYWOLF9552 on June 11, 2022 at 9:12 am

i just made a new pc ,been running two months could not get minion to work with eso duma me ask geek squad to try it then they breck my new pc and has done nothing to fix it ;/

  43. J dub on June 11, 2022 at 9:13 am

These comments are ridiculous, " I work at Geeksquad and im confident my team would have figured it out" yea right. Anybody that knows anything about geeksquad knows they’re garbage. To the others that said its unfair, have lost their minds. What is Geeksquads purpose if they cant diagnose a loose cable? Thats costing someone hundreds of dollars from GS incompetence. Crazy just crazy

  44. Eldestisland on June 11, 2022 at 9:18 am

The Geek Squad probably didn’t try very hard because you said you were a crypto miner, lmao

  45. Hefty88 on June 11, 2022 at 9:19 am

As a PC technician at a small mom and pop shop this kind of oversight on geek squad is just painful to watch. 🤦‍♂️

  46. Steven De Almeida on June 11, 2022 at 9:19 am

  47. Epichunter11 on June 11, 2022 at 9:20 am

I hear yall in the comments but no. if im taking my pc into geek squad for a diagnosis and hey try to slap a 400$ bill on me, i expected them to know that a gpu with insufficient power wont post.
