Young South Africans build cool gadgets at Maker Faire Africa
The first Maker Faire Africa in Johannesburg was a big hit with inner city and disadvantaged South African teenagers at Sci-Bono, where they could experience cutting edge technology like 3D printers that are being hailed as the ‘second industrial revolution’.
In this video we hear from one of the organizers, Aaron Kohn from the Museum of African Design, about why it is so important for the ‘maker culture’ that is spreading around the world to take root in Africa. We also meet Sandile, a grade seven school boy who visited the Maker Faire, to find out about the oscilloscope he made out of an old video intercom.
