The build EM-U Walnut is a bit better, If you mod them (and they are very easy to mod) they give you great sound and the cable problems are gone.

Just think for a second. Zeus lets them off constantly thoughout this video making it clear that this model is a pre-production unit. But lets just think here for a second. These are review units. The company knows these units are going to reviewers and they most likely hand pick the units they send to reviewers and this is the best they can do? Holy Crap.
I can’t even imagine the quality control on the ones where someone doesn’t handpick the best one for reviewers. That cable was horrendous.

Got these in the mail a few days ago, and I’m happy to report that the main build issues highlighted in this video have been addressed.
The cable twist has been addressed completely, both in the sense that it doesn’t tangle like it does in the video, as well as the fact that they are fully-attached to the cups and do not rotate at all. It’s not a premium-feeling cable, but its definitely better than many I’ve encountered.
However, the rest of the construction is not significantly different than how it appears here. The plastic parts still feel cheap and rattle when shook. The height adjustment mechanism is fine, if unremarkable. Overall, it’s definitely a little bit more fragile feeling that I’d like, but not at all worse than I’d expect from a $75 pair of headphones.
The sound is just as described. Dark, but good. I mainly listen to instrumental/electronic/ambient stuff on this as a background track for work. For that, these are fantastic fantastic. In rock/pop the wonkiness is definitely noticeable, and the bass is a bit much. But if you listen to stuff where bass is the focus, I think you’d probably like them (not that it matters since the drop is over).

You should review the Philips Fidelio L1 mk2’s, after some burn in I think they are really good and worth a look, they don’t need an amp but they go well with an smsl m6

what would it take for you to make a full, very high end full set-up with speakers, amps, dacs, headphones… the whole lot, and do a video on it? you already have everything you need I assume.
A good idea for all brands of headphones is to have L and R also in braille for a blind person. Not a deaf person lol , a blind person. That sort of thing would indicate to me that makers are into tweaking things ,which is good.
Don’t buy these headphones! These are basically Creative Aurvana Live! with wood instead of plastic. I had the Aurvana and the cable was a mess. Sooner or later it will start giving problems. Mine broke in the jack and I had to trash the headphones, because the wires inside the cable were so thin that was impossible for me even trying to replace the jack and make the soldering. The sound of the Aurvana was ok for the price, but the built quality definitely not.
This has to be one of Z’s most spot critiques he’s ever done.

The drop just shipped on these. Should be getting them in a few days. Fingers crossed the build will be improved, but based on the sound demo I’m excited regardless.
Gonna get a hard case so they don’t shatter into a million pieces when I move them places, but the darker sound seems perfectly non-fatiguing for the instrumental/ambient stuff I like listening to while at the office or on the bus.

They sounded good, on the demo, actually. But that build quality will just throw me off (I was already frustrated by the fact that it won’t fold)

Hi, what do you think about pairing K612 Pros with Aune X1s? Do you recommend any other good combo (dac+amp) to 250euro?
That’s what I hate about Massdrop and what I can’t justify. To save 10% of the price compared to other online retailers like Amazon, you need to pay money up front for something you need to wait 30-60 days for and sometimes deal with defects and manufacturing delays and blah blah blah. My time’s worth money and I get really antsy when I order big electronics. If I buy a $500 Amp, or an $800 pair of headphones it best be at my door the same week wrapped in gold leaf paper and a platinum bow.
Yeah, they feel cheap because they are a pair of wood cup’d CAL!’s. Those are very cheap and they sound great. Btw, the CALs are slightly bright, lively up top. Maybe that wood makes the difference happen?
Being spoiled by the phillips X2’s and shp9500’s, I can’t stand when headphones don’t have a non-retarded (coughsennheiserakgcough) removable cable.
