Gaming helped me deal with anxiety and competitiveness. I’ve played Dota for at least 6 years now and I’d get highly anxious before a match. After some time and mental conditioning, I was able to detach from the pressure the fear of failing was putting on me and just look at myself and say "hey, it’s just a game". Eventually I was able to see everything in my life in this light of "hey it’s okay if I try my best but still fail, I’m only human".

Playing videogames to better my mental health is really the reason I got into them, when I lost my father my mother was diagnosed with depression and bipolar, so she wasn’t really the best person to be around. At this time I took to videogames as a way out and it has drastically helped me in dealing with my situation better.

This video is very well researched and executed. But some arguements are dishonest or misleading in order to shine a better light on gaming. As a positive side note: kudos for saying that people should reach out for help if needed.

As an avid rhythm gamer, it definitely sharpens my cognitive abilities in a similar way playing the piano does, and certainly benefits my life in many ways.

    great video.
    got a few questions.
    1. would you cover Just cause 4?
    2. would you do a series for any video game? like completing them in multiple episodes
    3. maybe post some links to the studies in the description or a cast of links to the studies after the video is over?
    4. if you cover single player games maybe give bad north a look? for now its only on discord.

this video was quite educative if I must say, so great job!

Played games all my life, ever since the commodore 64. Games have helped me get through severe depression, suicide thoughts, due to the onset of chronic pain. They are a huge distraction for me everyday, keeping my mind off the pain, and also my situation. Games are the second biggest thing that helps me deal with chronic pain. #1 is a small cat named blue.

I’ve found games help me to break repetitive thoughts and sometimes when I come back from a game to a problem or situation I can look at it from a different viewpoint, same as with books 🙂 (Awesome video and thanks for the references)

  35. Avinash Ammisetty on October 31, 2019 at 6:21 pm

Games have helped me decrease my reaction time even in the real world scenarios
That means i can react quickly
And games have been my company in my lonely times better than friends who are of split personality.
For people who say and think video games are waste of time and evil "you have not yet experienced the magic"
