Anthem processors have always done a fantastic job at spatial imaging. They can locate effects in precise positions with special effects panning across or around the room sounding totally natural. With the better DACs and improved power supplies, the AVM90 got even better. In our listening test, it could float effects with pinpoint accuracy all over the home theater sound field.

I really miss my AVM-50V. Currently own a Marantz but going back to Anthem as soon as I have the funds to buy another. IMO you can never wrong with an Anthem processor.

Hey Scott, when is Anthem updating these processors for Auro 3D support?

For a 7.4.4 setup…between AVM 90 or JBL SDP-58, which one would be best for 4 discrete subwoofers and bass control room correction?

  12. Erod on April 1, 2022 at 11:09 pm

Really liked my Anthem 60, but I’ve found Dirac is far superior to ARC, which has regressed in recent years. Hope the 90 solved that, but I’m doubtful.

  13. Axel Cortez on April 1, 2022 at 11:09 pm

On the web article it says video inputs are hdmi 2.0b (on the specs at the bottom)

  14. bornagain bornagain on April 1, 2022 at 11:11 pm

I own the 60 and this one should have Auro. WTF is the problem? The best is the best and this doesn’t have the best. Period!!

  15. Wayne Fehres on April 1, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Thank you for this review! I just preordered one from you guys thanks to this review 👍😊.

    Why no Auro 3D ?

  17. Zatara on April 1, 2022 at 11:16 pm

Would you happen to know what ESS DAC model in the AVM70?

  18. paul upton on April 1, 2022 at 11:16 pm

All that tech info is very nice but what does the AVM 90 cost?!!!!

  19. Kevin Gardner on April 1, 2022 at 11:17 pm

$7500 – Must be a great unit. But, just who can honestly afford such a device and the amps? Must be nice to be filthy – criminally rich!

  20. Grayson Peddie on April 1, 2022 at 11:17 pm

I love this video so much because I’m a home theater enthusiast! 😀

  21. don040870 on April 1, 2022 at 11:17 pm

I appreciate the review but I’ve been patiently waiting for months for either of these units to go in stock and seeing how great they are yet again only fuels my frustration.

  22. SethFM on April 1, 2022 at 11:19 pm

I’m really excited to hear how good the new avm90 is, and I appreciate the comparison with the avm70.

Can’t wait. I’ve had mine on order for months.

Great video, thanks for posting this. I have a question about the 90’s capabilities. I would like to know what internal resolution the unit operates at when the digital signal undergoes bass management, ARC, etc. The unit has 32/768 DACs but there is no reference to the internal processing or ADCs. I’ve seen it posted on-line that for analog conversion there is a 192kHz menu option which to me suggests a 24/192 ADC or possibly 32/192. Do you know if this is true, that all analog signals are sampled at 24/192? And concerning internal processing what happens to incoming digital signals of various resolutions, getting back to my initial question, if the unit sees a 24/192 signal on the input, can ARC operate at that native resolution or does it have to down sample to say 24/48. So similar to 24/96 content, is it down sampled or processed natively and say standard CD resolution of 16/44.1, would that remain native or up sampled to a higher resolution. I would assume feeding the unit something like a 24/352.8 digital music file from HDTracks would be down sampled but to what resolution?

  26. Santa Banta on April 1, 2022 at 11:26 pm

Awesome review, thank you for doing it. This unit however needs the Auro 3D support to make it the full package.

  27. DaDevastator24_7 on April 1, 2022 at 11:28 pm

Show us your theater room. Please advise Anthem to add PEQ to their bass management.

  28. Adam Jannetta on April 1, 2022 at 11:30 pm

Great overview! Do we know if the latest version of ARC handles impulse response like Dirac? Also, is it able to correct multiple subs independently?

  29. Angus Small on April 1, 2022 at 11:35 pm

Outstanding review. I’ve been waiting to hear a review on this since they finally recently announced its availability. Very thorough video!

Excellent video as always. Thanks. // Conny

  31. woody168 on April 1, 2022 at 11:41 pm

I think a big omission of the features on AVM90 is the lack of Tidal Connect. If you are serious about music, having Tidal Connect and/or Qobuz Connect would help greatly, as Spotify Lossless is nowhere to be found.

Of course, one can argue that for those that can afford AVM90 would may also have Roon on hand, thus becoming a moot point. But if the additional AKM factory fires did provide some time to fine tune the AVM90, you would think they would have added Tidal Connect as a feature set.

  32. Reginald Nutter on April 1, 2022 at 11:43 pm

    I ordered one

  33. jean marc Giroux on April 1, 2022 at 11:43 pm

Hope it doesn’t have all the bugs the others had when launched.

  34. bigjack79 on April 1, 2022 at 11:43 pm

I Would love to see this and the avm70 tested at Audioholics.

  41. double T on April 1, 2022 at 11:55 pm

Great video. Very informative. Thank you. You stated it had 7 hdmi inputs; how many are 2.1 (4k 120, 8k 60)? Also, is the main difference between the 70 & 90 the 4 sub outs? I use four subs but my minidsp works great. Lastly, I get the person on video is excited (or at least speaking with excitement), but he doesn’t have to speak in a excited/raised voice for the whole video. Just a suggestion. No hate.

  42. Paul Carroll on April 1, 2022 at 11:57 pm

Fantastic video, mate. Love your setup, it’s a Den/Home theatre, much more practical room set up.
    Love that MadVR as well.

    Cheers from Australia.

This video was great. I have loved anthem products for a long time and have had many of the prior generations. It was nice to learn about the new features and it’s great to hear you have a setup guide for you customers. Thanks for doing such a great job on the review. This will definitely help me with my upcoming purchase on the new generation Anthem.

When the AVM 70 will have HDMI 2.1 available? Nice demo.
