The Taipei 3C Products and Appliances Expo opened today at the Taipei World Trade Center. This year a record 600 booths are on the floor with back-to-school bargains and subsidized household appliances. More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the four-day event.Today President Tsai Ing-wen attended the opening ceremony of the Taipei 3C Products and Appliances Expo, which runs for four days. If you’re looking for a product that’s tens of thousands of dollars, you can get it here for NT$5,000 to 10,000 less.Member of the publicI took a look at some of the vendors and the products really are rather cheap, mainly due to government subsidies.This year organizers are heavily promoting back-to-school products, and gaming laptops have gotten the most inquiries. Other popular products are air conditioners and refrigerators. Under a trade-in scheme, shoppers can get up to NT$5,000 toward each new appliance. The vendors have sweetened the deal with additional discounts and gifts, in a bid to stimulate sales.Ting I-chungRetailerThis year we’re expecting sales to jump some 20-30% compared to previous years. Even before the talk of tax rebates, we had lots of inquiries from consumers. Sales grew 20% from the first quarter to the second quarter.Government incentives for green appliances, plus the back-to-school season, could mean a sales boost for retailers at the fair. This year’s exhibition has more vendors and booths than before, and total sales of home appliances are expected to go up 10% year on year. More than 200,000 visitors are expected over the four days of the exhibition.
