Don’t overlook consumer cellular who works off of T-Mobile’s and AT&T’s networks. Their target market is older demographics, however I’m 20 and just bought an Iphone 10S through T-Mobile. I had a used 6S with consumer cellular sharing a 15gb data plan with my mom and I rarely had major issues with it. At times it could be a little slow, but I rarely had a noticeable issue with texts or calls. Data coverage ranges were pretty wide too as I drive all around rural and urban Wisconsin frequently. I don’t know just what to attribute the infrequent poor connection to. I would guess it was a combo of the 6S being a sprint phone once, most likely on their CDMA network, moving temporarily to AT&T’s GSM network(we had AT&T for a bit), then working off the same network but through a different carrier. Also partially the age of the phone, but I’m sure the network had some contributions. Either way, I’m extremely dissatisfied with T-Mobile atm. Their service is so shit, I have ‘magenta’ I believe, a $40 unlimited prepaid plan and I can almost never even connect to my data. It’s garbage and I’m very inclined to unlock the phone before the required 40 days of service or $100 of prepaid refills just so I can switch back to some MVNO. I should get a full refund for the one payment for magenta since I haven’t gotten what I paid for, and they need to let me unlock it now cause I won’t continue to be a customer. I’m not gonna pay $85 just to get good service. Consumer cellular and perhaps even Mint are very tempting to turn to right now for their affordable and more reliable service options. I caution anyone considering T-Mobile. I only went with them because the 256gb IPhone 10S is over $1,000 anywhere else, locked or unlocked. Through T-Mobile it was $700 brand new. I’m not a long term payment committer, so a 2 year payment plan was a no go from the get go. I paid for it upfront in full, got a month of magenta, and have next to no service. The silver lining is, even if I have to pay for another month of service just to unlock the phone, I will have gotten the phone for significantly cheaper than almost everywhere else, and I can switch to anyone who works on a GSM network such as consumer cellular whom I’ve already had a previously positive experience with. Fair warning: anyone else considering paying in full upfront to then unlock the phone and instantly switch to your preferred carrier, check the network compatibility first. GSM and CDMA networks are not compatible. Some phones like my old 6S were capable of using both networks hence once being a sprint phone and being capable of switching to AT&T, but I don’t think my 10S is and it’s not something be presumptuous about, check before hand. I like AT&T and I know T-Mobile has good service(they’re just scammers and they’re overpriced), I can now go to an MVNO that uses a GSM network. But I couldn’t switch to a CDMA based network such as Sprint, Verizon, or a few others. Visa versa. Buy a phone through sprint upfront in full, unlock it, now you’re limited to CDMA networks in most cases due to Sprint’s branding on the phone. This applies to any carrier you’ve either purchased a phone through, or purchased an unlocked phone and then used service with a carrier. Either circumstance, once the phone has gone through a carrier the first time, it’s now branded. Example: my new iPhone has a model number exclusive to T-Mobile. From Apple, the 10S’ model number is A1920. My T-Mobile branded 10S’ model number is MTA72LL/A and I believe that will always remain there since I initially purchased it from T-Mobile and used their service. Unlocking the phone doesn’t remove it’s branding, it just frees the now branded phone to use compatible networks. I could be wrong about that, but that’s my understanding of it.

Sorry for being long winded but here’s 2 useful articles that helped me understand this unnecessarily complicated concept much better:

  24. JDSM & Associates Ltd. Co on May 8, 2020 at 4:14 pm

Wing is trash!!!! We paid our service 2 days before the 5th. Which is there billing cycle and now they say our data isnt restored until the 7th. If you have At&t plan with them they will turn your data off 30GB… that’s right turn it completely off. No slow down OFF… and want to claim they are better… and have the nerve to ask if you are tired of the carriers not caring about you…. yea well wing doesn’t either. Stay away from wing they ate bullshit. Need an attorney for false advertising!!!! RIP OFF

  26. Demetric Cauthen on May 8, 2020 at 4:15 pm

I’m using att&t 65 a month they took off 20 dollars by signing up on the website I’m very happy now with my plan I will never charge

  27. David Cole on May 8, 2020 at 4:17 pm

For best Balance of Coverage/Performance/Quality of Service for Families it has to be T-Mobile. All the Services you are talking about have a cap on there Performance and typically the phones they offer are lower grade Phones. I did Metro about 7 Years ago and Price was awesome, but Phones offered and Coverage/Speeds were less than other Services like T-Mobile even though they uses the same Towers, but different Band with reduced speeds.

  28. Jared Alonge on May 8, 2020 at 4:17 pm

all these people posting how about prepaid carriers like they are their favorite sports team or like they are literally the united states navy with how defensive they get over it. at work i have to hear at least 50 people a day ride straight talks D and act like im hailing satan by suggesting theres better options. I mean prepaid does cost less per month, but most the people on prepaid are there because they dont think they can ever have anything more than a iphone 6s 5 years after it was first released.Sure, some people blow their whole tax return on a pro max but then they still stick it on straight talk lol. i just wish i could make people watch one of your videos before they buy that same 25GB card and tell me its "unlimited everything because it says so on the card"

  29. Craig Turney on May 8, 2020 at 4:19 pm

I have T mobile 2 phones unlimited data, text, calling. Pay flat $70 I feel this is MORE than reasonable. They even provide me with a free signal booster thingy because we live in the country and the closest cell tower is 7-8 miles away. I’m happy. Oh, as far as I can ascertain unlimited hot spot

  30. LtexprsGaming on May 8, 2020 at 4:22 pm

I have TMobiles unlimited $85 plan for only $70. $5 autopay discount and $10 discount through my company discount program.

  31. S K on May 8, 2020 at 4:23 pm

What to hear something about straight talk!!

  32. Kriegmarine on May 8, 2020 at 4:24 pm

FYI for those that care to read this; the 2020 Sprint/T-Mobile merger has been approved. still has a few hurdles to go through, but a good chance some of these deals may be affected by it.

  33. papaj43 on May 8, 2020 at 4:26 pm

First of all Visible is NOT owned or backed by Verizon, they only are using the Verizon 4G network and towers.
secondly signing up and trying to get activation was the worst experience, and their online customer service really sucks, I was droped off during chats time after time and each time I reopened chat , guess what! a new person and they wanted me to go through everything I had already gone through with other online person, seems that they can not just pull up previous conversations. I am in process of canceling mine and my wife’s service and returning the phones that we received through the Swap Program. They have so many problems that I for one have already spent too much time trying to get things straightened out and fixed that I find it to be a demising return on my time . Things that are too good to be true are usually just that.

Whats the best in North Dakota, not many options here. Great video

  35. JB184351 on May 8, 2020 at 4:28 pm

Just saw an ad on Facebook for a carrier called Sweet, I was wondering if you have heard about them? If you have could you review them as well? They supposedly offer unlimited everything from $17 US a month! I think they have other plans but the difference is in speed.

  36. Dinh Lu on May 8, 2020 at 4:29 pm

Hi Stetson, I enjoy your videos. I was wondering if you know about Black Wireless and their plans. They have a unlimited talk/text, 50gb data/20gb hotspot for $25/month. I was wondering if you’re gonna do a review of Black Wireless.

  37. ubahnfreak1 on May 8, 2020 at 4:30 pm

Well if you only need 35 GB Data you can takr this vodafone traveller card from spain. https://www.vodafone.es/c/particulares/es/productos-y-servicios/movil/vodafone-traveller/ They haver a data rollup so I have now 50 GB of data.

  38. William Patterson on May 8, 2020 at 4:31 pm

Best $50 prepaid option is Ultra Mobile $49 plan, 50GB Priority data, unlimited hotspot at high speed up to 50GB. and they fully support 5G. But Ultra Mobile seems to be overlooked alot. https://www.ultramobile.com/product/49-plan-sim-kit/

    Outstanding information Stetson!

  47. jesijess933 on May 8, 2020 at 4:42 pm

Wow everyone depends solely on wifi. I just can’t do it

  48. Julian on May 8, 2020 at 4:46 pm

Why do you not cover the 8gb $300/yr lump sum ($25 on monthly basis) plan? This is the most underrated prepaid plan out there and doesn’t get enough attention. It’s Mint Mobile pricing but AT&T coverage instead of crappy T-Mobile. Best of both worlds.

  49. Crispen Leblanc on May 8, 2020 at 4:46 pm

Thank you for including the timestamps!

  50. Mark Mandelstamm on May 8, 2020 at 4:49 pm

Correction Spectrum Mobile gives you 5gb of full speed hotspot data. I have been using them for 10 months and I use the hotspot almost every day.
