I’m recording outdoors on the seafront and it’s almost always windy. I have a lav microphone with a dead cat but the wind is still deafening. Any suggestions? I’m using an iPhone X and don’t want to do any post production.

Tap the mic to test it said no professional sound engineer EVER! The adapters you need to get any external mic into an iPhone are a female TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) to male TRRS (tip, ring, ring, sleeve – 4 pole) and a female TRRS to male lightening. A simple lightening to 3.5mm adapter only allows for headphone output not mic input.

Hello I am interested to see if you have any suggestions. I have a OnePlus 6 Smartphone. Can it work with the shure microphone MV88 + or not? If not (what I don’t hope) what Canon I do/use /buy? That for the best quality music recording. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just bought the LG Stylo 5. I like to record my singing but the microphone is crap. The Stylo 2 had a better internal mic, Just plug in my headphones and go. What do I need to do to be able to record vocals on apps such as bandlab if my internal mic is crap?

Liked the video, but you really shouldn’t tap on the microphone to test it for signal. Tapping can eventually lead to popping out the diaphragm. Simply scratching the protective grill with your fingernail or snapping your fingers 2 inches away from the mic will give a more accurate transient response without damaging your mic.

  30. Daniel Southerland on October 26, 2020 at 4:09 pm

Totally skipped over the Saramonic SmartMic+ USBc mic. It doesn’t plug straight into an iPhone because it uses USBc, but it does work great plugged directly into a newer gen iPad. Great for voiceovers, podcasts, etc.. or you can snag a lightning to USBc dongle and plug it into an iPhone. Cheers!

  31. Chris Stafford on October 26, 2020 at 4:09 pm

The MV88 sounded the best the other two sounded the same as the internal on the iPhone.

  32. Damianos on October 26, 2020 at 4:10 pm

Brian one question!! If i use the rode mic or the shure, in y android, can i record video with the android and the sound of the video will be straight on the video without post production? Or it doesnt record with the video simuteniously?

  33. Lirio de Plata on October 26, 2020 at 4:10 pm

Is the Shure MV88 only for iOS or does it work also with Android?

  34. Stop Big Spending on October 26, 2020 at 4:12 pm

I tried the Rode VideoMic it got sound but I could hardly hear it! I am taking it back!

I have a phone that only has a type C hole. Would a microphone work if I use 3.5mm jack to type C adapter?

  36. Lorkie on October 26, 2020 at 4:13 pm

I’m using this for my ipad

  37. Joe M on October 26, 2020 at 4:15 pm

Which one is best for drownding out background noises, like from an air conditioner? It also has to be hands free.

  45. Dasha Derkach on October 26, 2020 at 4:24 pm

Hello, amazing video, thank you so much!!! I am a new YouTuber and so my sound quality is obviously not that good! I would just get one of those mics that attaches to the camera, but when I film I am too far away from the mic for it to hear me ( I already tried it out 🙁 ) But at the same time I cannot have a wireless mic because my videos are for beginner ballet dancers and I’m showing and dancing thought the video so that would one bother me in the back, be seen on camera, and there would probably be weird noises from me moving and my body cracking 😂🤣 Please let me know what mic you think would be best for farther away filming without being on me!!! Thank you so much 🥰😊👍

Hi! for some reasons when I plug an external mic on my samsung s10 and I try to record that sound I get a lot of white noise. The phone just came back from the shop so it’s like brand new. The mic (a rode video mic pro+) works very well with other devices. I am also using the right cable with TRS & TRRS 3.5 audio jack (Rode SC7)
What is the problem? Can you help?
The people at the phone shop suggested to ask to someone like you (who already run successfully the combination of s10 + mic) the software version of the S10. Can you do that for me? dial *#1234# on your phone and print the screen.
Thank you soooo much! I am quite desperate and I am almost throwing my phone to the trash bin.

Id rather like to know what mic are you using for the this clip, rather than the mic sample.heheh

  49. Gord Isman on October 26, 2020 at 4:31 pm

Hey Brian, have you used the Rode Wireless Go solution with the Lavalier Go lav plugged into it? If so, how did it sound? Also, have you used a pair of the Rode Wireless Go mics plugged into the Rode SC6-L to handle an interview situation? I’m trying to find an affordable, wireless set of 2 mics to work with the iPhone 11 and record each voice on separate tracks. Any ideas or thoughts you can share would be appreciated.
