Best Small Phones (2020)

Best Small Phones (2020)

We review our favourite mini mobile phones in 2020, across a range of budgets – from cheap smaller smartphones such as the Xperia XZ2 Compact, to premium handsets like the Pixel 4. These are all under 6-inches and in many cases around the 5-inch mark, so one-handed use is refreshingly easy.

While tracking down a proper tiny blower is tricky in 2020, foldable phones like the Moto Razr and Galaxy Fold 2 will hopefully ease the pain when they hit UK stores. And you can still find small-ish standard devices from the likes of Google and Sony, although the Pixel 4 disappoints with its meagre battery life. Here’s hoping the Pixel 4a and a new Xperia Compact will emerge later this year.

If you’re happy to go iOS, the likes of the iPhone 8 and XS are still quite compact, while a new iPhone SE2 will hopefully be launched before the winter. But whatever you do, steer clear of the Fairphone 3 (which isn’t compact despite that small screen) and the Palm Phone, which is absolutely awful.

What’s you favourite mini mobile? We only feature phones that we’ve personally used , so apologies if your pick of the best isn’t mentioned!

Still got my SE and it’s still performing as it did on day 1 , got a moto g7 power as back-up and as a “media player” , those 2 phones combined cost me a quarter of the price of a flagship and will last me twice as long

Your video is useless, these phones ARE NOT SMALL

  9. ZeroLife on March 28, 2020 at 7:34 am

those old Sony xperia seems to be the way to go… my Nexus 4 is one foot into hell already, need a replacement. Those xperia seems to be on very similar dimension but actually 0.5" larger screen, very nice indeed. // Looks unique, unlike 99% of iPong clones out there. Low price, I see a lot of people selling second hand ~$50 locally, so availability doesn’t seems to be an issue even for those 5 years old models. // I don’t care much about performance, since I don’t play games on phone. All I need is – cheap, looks great, and small. Those xperia seems to fit the bill… 👍

    Only 1 small phone ‘reviewed’.

  11. Georgy Gobozov on March 28, 2020 at 7:36 am

This is just ridiculous.. most of people like compact phones and like to handle it with one hand but phone vendors don’t understand it and keep produce 6.5 inches phone. Give me <=5.5 inch, full hd, 6gb ram, decent camera and 4000 mah battery!

  12. tom jens on March 28, 2020 at 7:36 am

do you think sony would release same size new compact phone? Like zx3 compact
Ok, got the asswer later in the video, unfortunately 5.5 inch is not the same as that 5.0 🙁
There are plenty of 5.5 inch phones, with 5.0 they would have no competition.

You forgot the very BEST compact phone "XIAOMI MI9 SE" Best bang for buck premium compact phone that gives you nearly everything for far less than s10e!!
Also pixel 3a is not a small phone but medium size ugly phone with a small screen, big bezels but good camera!!
And YES pixel 4a is looking to be the REAL deal android compact phone to get 2020 so heres hoping it delivers 🙂

It’s pointless to be small when the sets are so heavy it sags down your pants. For comparison:
    Pixel 4: 162 g (5.71 oz)
    Pixel 3a: 147 g (5.19 oz)
    Fairphone 3: 189 g (6.66 oz)
    Galaxy s10e: 150 g (5.29 oz)
    Palm: 62.5 g (2.22 oz)
    iPhone XS: 177 g (6.24 oz)
    Xperia XZ2 Compact: 168 g (5.93 oz)
    Galaxy Fold: 263 g (9.28 oz)
    Razr 2019: 205 g (7.23 oz)
    iPhone SE 2: ~148 g (5.22 oz)
The new iPhone SE 2 will take on the design of iPhone 8, which should be roughly the same weight as 8 unfortunately.
Its predecessor, the iPhone SE, is so cheap these days, people are using it as burner phones. Its technology may be dated, yet it still beats the snot out of most new Chinese phones. The screen is diminutive compared to new Android phones, but remember kids grew up playing PSP, which is the same size. With all that out of the way…
    iPhone SE: 113 g (3.99 oz)
No Android phone maker can get any better than this. Not even Apple can. The new SE 2 is a disgrace.

  21. Mercedes Aker on March 28, 2020 at 7:42 am

Just what I was looking for with regards to smaller phones, thank you!

  22. RBR on March 28, 2020 at 7:44 am

There are no compact smartphones anymore. AFAIC, a phone’s display has to be 5" or smaller to be considered "compact".

  27. Metalmachine467 on March 28, 2020 at 7:50 am

I hope there’s a lot of interest in the clamshell phones as well as the new Samsung fold 2 tablet foldable
So they actually develop them more in the future

  28. Skeleton Dude on March 28, 2020 at 7:51 am

I might switch to iPhone just for the smaller size. I don’t game at all on my phone so specs never mattered to me. I just want to be able to hold my phone better so I won’t drop it all the time. Anything above 5 inches is a deal breaker.

  29. Toufik Reza on March 28, 2020 at 7:51 am

    I need a 4 inch bezzelless smartphone

currently using a xiaomi mi max 3 at 6.9 inches. had to take a day off work to visit the doctor’s, and diagnosed with carpal tunnel due to constant need to grip the phone while lying down and watching a movie. love the screen but maybe need to get an iphone se as daily driver for basic text and calls.
