Cell Phone Use Banned in Grand Prairie School Zones

Cell Phone Use Banned in Grand Prairie School Zones

The city of Grand Prairie is enforcing the ban on cellphone use in active school zones. The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 55 in 2009 giving cities and counties the choice of whether or not to ban cell phone usage in school zones. In order for this to be enforced, signs must be posted. Violators will be fined up to $200. To be fined, the cell phone must be up to your ear and your vehicle must be in motion when the school zone is active. This means hands-free devices are acceptable and if you are stationary it is not against the law to have your cell phone up to your ear.
