DO NOT BUY THIS! – Klark Teknik KT-76

It’s too cheap to be true… Ever heard that quote? Well, I think it’s true for the Klark Teknik KT-76.

  2. Gilbert Serrano on October 22, 2021 at 9:56 am

you don’t deserve the pleasure and joy that brings to manage such compressor…..period!

  3. Trevor Carter on October 22, 2021 at 9:57 am

Idiot .. this is a ridiculously cheap product that performs great.

  4. AnonymousTrusty on October 22, 2021 at 9:57 am

Man, delete this video, seriously, save yourself from such a shame.

  5. Lawrence Gillespie on October 22, 2021 at 9:58 am

It sounds pretty good to me. Thanks for the demo.

  6. christdolphin69 on October 22, 2021 at 9:58 am

i mean, you are biased. you can tell by all of your videos and titles. but also it is $200. so no shit, its not a urei

  7. Lennart Regebro on October 22, 2021 at 10:02 am

The kicks was really different, and on the kick, the Klark Teknik sounded *most* like the Urei. The plugin always sounded worst. The hard driven Klark Teknik wasn’t THAT different from the Urei, but yeah, the Urei gave the vocals a closeness and presence none of the other had. Very interesting.

  8. JH Studio on October 22, 2021 at 10:02 am

You really should consider doing something else with your life. Your smug, irresponsible comments illustrate how naive and inexperienced you really are. This comparison is absurd and the title illustrates the amount of bias you exhibit. If you’re going to be a gear snob, you shouldn’t review budget priced equipment….. ever.

  9. Noir on October 22, 2021 at 10:03 am

7:47 yup there’s the whole reason why I bought 2 of those and just put them in my studio rack, never used them, just to please clients that don’t know the brands, because I can’t afford 2 UA 1176’s lmao

  10. Ruthless CutThroat on October 22, 2021 at 10:06 am

I didn’t like the sound character of this particular unit, it had a "ceiling" accross all frequencies.
But having a compressor that is transparent is a really good thing in my opinion. Acoustic guitars suffer terribly when run through "color boxes" but in front of a transparent compressor like say a drawmer you get magic.

  11. AsgaiaMetal on October 22, 2021 at 10:08 am

Why not use Klart Teknik Stuff as housing and maybe voltage supply only to put DIY stuff in there. There are circuts and DIY-projects for pultec, 1176 and LA2A.

  12. Noir on October 22, 2021 at 10:09 am

Here’s one reason to have a transparent analog compressor: you can’t run a plugin between your mic pre and your converter; having a transparent compressor in between helps you maintain the sound coming from the pre while ducking down peaks that might clip the converter, basically a piece that makes gain adjustment way easier without introducing any unwanted tonal characteristics

  13. Lee Buck on October 22, 2021 at 10:11 am

10 seconds over all to the bottom line. Manufacturing cycle times are measured in over all parts or processes that are done all at once to create that time. It might take an hr to assemble, but assemble 100 at the same time and that time gets estimated across all the units, but it honestly took an hr for that process to be completed. It doesn’t make that unit good, but mass production brings time and price down. Still, buyer beware.

DO NOT BUY INTO THIS REVIEW! So, this dude claims that the only purpose of an 1176 is the saturation you get if you drive it hard. My buddy bought two of these. I have 1176’s and LA2A’s in my work studio, and I can tell you that the basic compression quality of the KT unit is close to the UA 1176. DUH! That’s what I buy a compressor for, not for the distortion that it adds to the signal. I mean, yeah, I get it. I like the saturation of the UA 1176. But it’s not that huge a deal. I get saturation from my Neve 5024, SCA N72 and other hairy preamps. I use the 1176 for compression. This kind of clueless review from some dude who seems to have a following is sad.

  16. RAP FOR LIFE on October 22, 2021 at 10:14 am

Hi, thank you for your honesty! you are right 🙂 Can you test the Klark Teknik KT-2A Compressor (LA-2A Clone)?

  17. sergio basswonder on October 22, 2021 at 10:15 am

tell me if this klark compresor is a good product to use for vocals

  18. JGirard1Stream on October 22, 2021 at 10:15 am

I know this is an older video, but I just re-watched it today. This is a great review by Wytse. He does a great job at summarizing it in the end by saying "I don’t know why you should use this unit. It doesn’t have a sound. It doesn’t have anything to add." Mic drop…LOL!

  19. Fitzjames Wood on October 22, 2021 at 10:16 am

Presentdayproduction did a shootout of many vintage/plugin and modern expensive reissues of the 1176 and the humble KT 76 and you couldn’t be more wrong. It sounded so much better than many of the others: not bad and not neutral (do any compressors sound bad anyway?). It sounded great. I don’t get this video at all. Original Blackface 1176’s probably all sounded different despite being initially designed to be more ‘transparent’. Comparing them to the Urei’s Blue stripes is pointless…compare it to the Warm version and UA’s current version Blackface.

  20. kyma1999x on October 22, 2021 at 10:16 am

that’s the real 1176 how it was (maybe) meant to be!

  21. ssyne on October 22, 2021 at 10:17 am

its the wrong voice fool, try it on a rock vocal with a 414 and 57 blended, horses for course its not the unit its the choice of source music in this units case its not as heavy spitty as the other limiting amps that clip and chew the audio

  22. HOOLS D3MON on October 22, 2021 at 10:20 am

Ahahaha checked the 1,5 dislikes? Why a compressor do distort? Lol it’s to compress…..

  23. VinceIsDead on October 22, 2021 at 10:25 am

All the losers here trying to justify why the klark is good soley just because they bought it and don’t wanna feel like they made a bad purchase. The human ego is a joke. Much like this unit. The whole klark company needs to be in the trash

  24. matt Gilson on October 22, 2021 at 10:25 am

I’m confused here. He’s comparing against the blue stripe sound. But also is he suggesting you be just as good off with a utility compressor? Like say a cheap DBX560A or an ART compressor? I’ve been looking at this one and a DBX560A since I have a 500 series. Still thinking about it! I’ve heard great things about the Klark 2A and swapping parts. But I can only find the 1176 version, maybe every 2 months for $299 in limited supply. Mostly the complaints I see on these is quality control. That 1 out of 2 units typically will have a noise floor issue. Many say it’s pretty decent for a black series, going up against Warm to save $300 or so. But QC is pretty bad on the units with noise. That’s what holds me back from grabbing one. Don’t wanna keep returning compressors.

  25. Creativecoverz on October 22, 2021 at 10:25 am

    But it sounds good?

  26. Igor Keim on October 22, 2021 at 10:27 am

"Use the ATTACK knob to adjust the amount
of time it takes for the compressor
to respond to audio that exceeds the
threshold. The response time is slow when
set fully counterclockwise and faster as it is
    turned clockwise. "

  27. Michael Rice on October 22, 2021 at 10:27 am

I like the honesty! Your right it’s like a clone but without the character of a 1176. But I think for people starting to get into hardware maybe buying their first compressor for the price this would actually be a amazing piece. It sounds pretty good and can be hit pretty hard without distorting it seems like.

  28. DoomAndBloom on October 22, 2021 at 10:29 am

So buy if you want a nice cheap transparent comp

  29. Jermaine Flowers on October 22, 2021 at 10:30 am

After watching a few of these videos I’ve now realized this guy is the Scotty kilmore of audio reviews.

  30. cyorkgo on October 22, 2021 at 10:31 am

Funny… its useless, but I’m putting on Ebay…LOL…

According to KT it’s a homepage to the classic 1176N, D and E versions of the 1176. Not the Blue Stripe which does have more "character" 🤔. So I disagree with your conclusion that its useless. But I agree with your conclusion that it’s useless, if you are comparing it to something it’s not. For $300 it’s definitely worth it. I own one as well as the Black Lion Audio Version of the CLA Bluey. Different beast and both are useful 😃

  31. Recording Daily on October 22, 2021 at 10:32 am

Try Q1 FET from the original UREI into the klark or whatever and you will be very surprised. with correct bias adjustmets of course

  32. Rui André on October 22, 2021 at 10:33 am

Meme: Reviews hardware compressor. Complains its not an overdrive effect.

  33. Andin Briwel on October 22, 2021 at 10:33 am

If you want distortion, add distortion. If you want a clean, compressed, present vocal, buy a Klark Teknik. After the caps dry out for 30 years, it’ll have the distortion you’re looking for 😂
FWIW, I use 1176’s on dialogue for film. I do everything I can to reduce distortion, so this is probably perfect for sweetening dialogue for picture.

  34. oink ooink on October 22, 2021 at 10:35 am

Boy did Klark Teknik milk some money from a whole lot of MASK WEARING NORMS

  35. hisroyalsucculence on October 22, 2021 at 10:38 am

Liked the KT most on snare. Stam for vocals.

  36. deanjames art on October 22, 2021 at 10:40 am

Americans on this video: You say something about my 76-KT?!

  39. Music Easel Cat on October 22, 2021 at 10:45 am

    Idiot much?

  40. Phunkation recs on October 22, 2021 at 10:46 am

Software is just not comparable or not exactly matched to hardware setup. Probably both. I like Klark on drums the most and irritating on vocals. Stam very nice attack and click on drums and definitely nice "artifacts" on the vocal.

  41. Daniel Robert Herr on October 22, 2021 at 10:48 am

strange.some of these dont work as well as others.. i have one and it adds grit and weight on bass.

  42. EddieHitler7 on October 22, 2021 at 10:49 am

    what’s wrong with a transparent compressor ?

  43. rccdelmte on October 22, 2021 at 10:49 am

Classic example of you get what you pay for. $400 for a compressor you can’t expect much.

  44. fibbo obbif on October 22, 2021 at 10:49 am

Do not buy that bullshit… Nervous guy who does not really care for comparison with several units and calibrated audio levels.

  45. 1DShoe on October 22, 2021 at 10:50 am

    I love the mug.

  46. PolyPhonic Groove on October 22, 2021 at 10:50 am

LOL!!! For the most part, I generally agree with you. This is no exception, great video and great insight.

  47. Andrew CCM on October 22, 2021 at 10:51 am

You do realize he compared completely different 1176 flavors. Blue stripe colors sound…the LN which is later 1176 is what the Klark is based on and is a cleaner circuit… LN=Low Noise. This isn’t an accurate comparison. If he’d compared to a black face UA 1176LN…that would have been fair. Apples/oranges

  48. Otis Francis on October 22, 2021 at 10:51 am

I like this channel it has a lot of great advice but….I bought 2 of the KT76s and they sound fantastic. they work for distorted or clean guitar tracks. The transformers really fatten the sound. I totally disagree that they are useless.

  49. Bon Tea on October 22, 2021 at 10:54 am

""White Sea Studio: "Hello Klark Teknik-Team, can i have a KT-76 for free for my next review Video

Main reason of video. ADDs ADDs ADDs

  50. Adam Spade on October 22, 2021 at 10:55 am

Compares to a completely different style 76 and then says it’s useless because it doesnt sound the same… 2 yrs later this pops in my feed.
