Exploring Akihabara, Tokyo's Electronics Markets – w/Only in Japan!

Akihabara might be known as the center of the anime, video game, and manga universe. But it’s roots are in it’s electronics markets – some of the coolest in the world! Today, we’re exploring the back alleys and cramped corridors with John Daub from the channel Only in Japan.

Love the channel man! Just a bit of constructive criticism… while you’re in Japan, China, India, etc., where cameras are probably cheap, you should update to something new? The rolling shutter jelly effect makes some parts almost unwatchable. Actually, I got sick this morning and was starting to feel better. I watched the Mumbai market, then this. About a quarter way into this I started to feel nauseated again. It is a true fact that this and other things done while filming can make some viewers dizzy or not able to watch.

I’m not saying I can do, or am, any better… just trying to help because other than that, the vids are great!

Those “Malls” where you can get those electric parts always look like an abandoned unfinished mall in America. It’s so raw, just some concrete and escalators and electric wires everywhere

  14. clayton costello on May 31, 2020 at 4:44 pm

Ok HERE IS THE IDEA, SET UP A SHOP THERE WITH A POLAROID PHOTO VENDING.MACHINE

Kind of like the old "Heath kit" back in the 70’s. The original computer or whatever else you wanted it to do.

Japan technology and electronics has stopped since late 90’s and no more new innovative creations coming out from Japan ever … in year 2020, walk into verizon, tmobile, bestbuy, costco, homedepot and etcs… all you see is Samsung, LG, Apple and rest of cheap chinese brands… semicon microchip is the one most key important part of all electronics and Samsung produce and supply about 50% of semicon microchip in the world alone…

I’m so glad I stumbled unto this video. It reminds me of the family trip back in 2015. Me and my younger brother’s eyes lit up when my Dad told us that we were gonna visit Akihabara. Sadly, we only had 3 hours so we soaked in as much experience as we could. This video tells me that in order to experience a bit of everything "Akihabara" , a minimum of 3 days should be allotted.

  30. Patrick Becker on May 31, 2020 at 5:05 pm

Did you ever make any of the midi music players?!?! I want to see that video.

That guy was like one of the guys from Pawn Stars show pretending to be extremely knowledgeable about something when actually it has been all scripted, except that he really knows his stuff. Pretty interesting guy to hangout and chat with.

I trust Japanese Electronics more than Korean. My Toshiba TV lasted more than a decade while my Samsung TV broke within 4 years.

Dude, I don’t watch a lot of your videos, but the few I saw you always interrupt people on your videos, like this dude and that metal laser cutting dude as well. Just chill the fuck out – let them speak.

I don’t know why but akihabara was such a disappointment when I checked it out. I feel like japans years as the electronics hub ended years ago. Korea and China has taken over

  45. Mesidg on May 31, 2020 at 5:25 pm
