Garmin Edge 25 Review – Best Value for money GPS bike computer of 2018

The Garmn Edge 25 is brilliant. It was brilliant when it was released and it remains one of the Best Value for Money GPS bike computers for 2018. Physically SMALL, functionally HUGE. Don’t be put off by the micro-sizing. I wear glasses to read but I can see the clear bright display of the Edge 25 under any light conditions.

NOTE – the Garmin Edge 25 does NOT support Power. If you want the best value for money bike computer with power meter options then please consider the Polar M450 (or newer M460)

Garmin Edge 25 video review by CardioCritic.com – Tristan Haskins. The Garmin Edge 25 is the perfect GPS bike computer for everyone who wants it simple, clean and easy to understand. At the same time, it features latest tech spec like Bluetooth Smartphone connectivity and ANT+ heart rate monitor and cadence sensor support.

At the end of your ride the Garmin Edge 25 will transmit all your ride data over Bluetooth connection to your iPhone or Android phone running Garmin Connect APP. The Garmin Connect app is compatible with all but the oldest iOs devices and the vast majority of modern Android devices like Samsung Galaxy 8, Motorola G5, Huawei P9 etc.

If you have connected your Garmin Connect account to Strava, your ride data will be seamlessly uploaded directly to the Strava site.

Good detail, thank you. I was hoping to see you connect a sensor though. I’m trying to find out if I can sync specific sensors to the Edge 25 for my wife that are different than mine. Currently she has my old Edge 705 which picks up anything in range, which is one reason I went to the Edge 1000. If this solves that problem then Santa will have to put one in her stocking.

  5. Ryan on October 5, 2020 at 11:19 pm

I’m a new rider, i want to see my speed, distance and how long i’ve been riding, Rough calories would be excellent too. would this suit my needs if not what do you recommend?

  6. Daniel Babar on October 5, 2020 at 11:25 pm

Does the Garmin Edge 25 track and upload where you road to directly to Strava? I currently have a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt Mini and when I upload my ride to Strava it doesn’t show my ride, only distance & average speed. Thank you!!

Hi I was going to use this for a different application. Can you set it up to show the max speed?

  9. Jez Oliver on October 5, 2020 at 11:26 pm

great review just as useful after I had bought on as it was to help me decide. I have the HRT, speed and cadence sensors for the rollers and an extra cadence for outdoors. some debate on speed sensor vs gps but I have kept with GPS outdoors. always worked fine before. great little unit so small (and light) but still practical and use able.

Does it save the fastest mph after each run

  11. Lucian Marin on October 5, 2020 at 11:27 pm

hi, in your experience can this also be used for 6-8 hour mountain hikes to record the path?
and is there any wrist strap that would work with it?
    thanks

  13. Cam Fischer on October 5, 2020 at 11:31 pm

  14. Naldo lemme on October 5, 2020 at 11:31 pm

  15. Frank Runkle on October 5, 2020 at 11:32 pm

Way too much crying over heart rate. Just pedal your bicycle, then pedal more tomorrow.

Is it possible to permanently disable backlight on this model?

  18. Jeff on October 5, 2020 at 11:34 pm

Great to watch the review. One question. How many hours do you need to charge the battery? Seems that the unit won’t show when the battery fully charged. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Hey guys, I love the Edge 25… I use it on an RC car, it shows the
current speed and average but can i not see and record my top speed ??
if i could this would be the perfect device 🙂

  20. [i] ven on October 5, 2020 at 11:38 pm

So lame you can’t display heart rate, cadence, and speed on once screen

  21. JoĂŁo Reis on October 5, 2020 at 11:38 pm

    hello.
the track you can follow with the garmin edge is a track you make previously or can you get it from other person?

  22. Brandon Wolf on October 5, 2020 at 11:43 pm

does this not keep top speed?

  23. PrĂłxima ERA on October 5, 2020 at 11:45 pm

Good morning, with the paired heart monitor, is it possible to set the data field on the first screen to show the heart rate?

  24. Sherman on October 5, 2020 at 11:48 pm

I am one of those people who is very slow at learning and I cant figure this thing out at all. I see people hitting the buttons and go here and there, but I cant figure out what buttons they are using. I just want time , distance and speed etc. and learn how to bring it to zero again!

  25. Paul Billings on October 5, 2020 at 11:48 pm

Course Turn by Turn is based on angle changes. Custom turns defined in a .TCX file are ignored. Fine for road, unsuitable for MTB navigation.

  26. Jamie on October 5, 2020 at 11:48 pm

I have an Edge 25 with a garmin premium heart rate. When I try to pair the sensor to the garmin it is saying the sensor must be awake to pair both devices (I’m wearing the monitor). Does anybody have any tips? Thanks

  27. Things That Go on October 5, 2020 at 11:52 pm

I have got to say, Garmin really dropped the f’n ball with how heart rate is displayed on this device. The user can’t add the heart rate to the 2 customizable pages? Did it ever occur to you, that some users might want to display other important stats alongside heart rate? I’m sure it did occur to you, Garmin, which is why you took that little perk away from us, so we all have to purchase the 520 instead. Jerks! lol

hi Tristan please could you help as I cant find anything after hours of trialling the web…I have the Edge 25 and find it fantastic. the only trouble I am having is adding courses to Garmin connect. I am doing a sportive in a few weeks time and downloaded the GPX file of the route, converted GPX to FIT which is what the Edge 25 only supports. From here I cant seem to save the FIT file to either Courses or New File when connected via USB.
any help would be greatly received, a video showing how would be brilliant as well if possible?.
    regards Luke

This is very useful. Answers all my questions. I’ll be asking for one for Christmas 🤓

  30. Zurkster on October 5, 2020 at 11:57 pm

Thanks for the detailed device review, it looks like a nice little trip computer. I’m buying one tomorrow for my eBike.

  31. Charles Rush on October 5, 2020 at 11:57 pm

This is for people how can’t understand how to use a more complex GPS computer. But those type of people are usually cheap-asses and wouldn’t spend $200 for a bike computer like this one. Good luck with selling this little turd Garmin.

  32. Dave Thomas on October 5, 2020 at 11:58 pm

Excellent review on the Garmin Edge 25. This may be my solution for my Bike Rides. Thank you.

  34. Manny Illana on October 6, 2020 at 12:03 am

getting a fenix3. would having the edge 25 be redundant?

  35. Lew Ironman 1995 on October 6, 2020 at 12:03 am

How come I cannot set HR on data views ? and when u say " its just there " where ? on another page ? and can i flip to it ?

  36. donphobos on October 6, 2020 at 12:04 am

Can you please confirm: there is no possibility to have 3 fields on same screen with following parameters. Actual speed, average speed and heart rate.
If above is not possible I would do for the Edge 520 probably.
