Hisense H8G Review (2020) – A very good budget-friendly 4k TV

Hisense H8G Review (2020) – A very good budget-friendly 4k TV

The Hisense H8G is a very good 4k tv at a budget-friendly price. This TV replaces the H8F from last year with a few changes.

The Hisense H8G delivers an impressive SDR Peak Brightness and has very good input lag and response time for anyone who likes gaming or watching sports. Unfortunately, there are a few areas where it’s slightly lacking in comparison to last year’s model. Most notable is the black uniformity, which is quite a big step down from the H8F. Like pretty much all displays that use a VA panel, the viewing angle is a little disappointing and quite a bit of degradation can be seen.

I had order a 65 inch tv back in August when I first moved in my new apartment. The tv looked great for the first week then about 30 tiny white dots started appearing on the tv screen. I contacted Hisense warranty and they sent an agent to field destroy the tv because it had damaged pixels. The agent came in and broke the tv by scratching the screen and I was told to discard it. Then they sent me a replacement with Estes forwarding worldwide very unprofessional company if you search them up is just a bunch of people complaining because their product was delivered broken with Estes forwarding. So Estes forwarding delivered a broken tv and before they left I told them I had to check the tv before them leaving they said I wasn’t able to turn on the TV because it was dangerous and if it was damaged to contact Hisense because it wasn’t their job. So the TV was broken I immediately contacted Hisense 20 minutes later after the tv had been left in my living room. Hisense explained to me to sent them pictures of the tv and a picture of the shipping box and the shipping label. I explained to them that I didn’t have the shipping box because the delivery company took with them so there was no way for me to sent that information so they told me to just email them the pictures of the tv. I emailed them then they sent me another email saying I had to sent pictures of the shipping label and in the email I stated twice that I didn’t have the shipping box because the delivery service took it with them. After I had been patiently waiting for them to give me a call and nothing. I called Hisense warranty and I explained my situation then the customer service person told me to resend the pictures. I resented the picture and once again they told me to send pictures of the shipping box and label and I explained to them I had already stated over email and phone that I don’t have the shipping box because the delivery company took it with them. Then they gave me a new case number after they had been playing around and wasting my time now they want me to sent back the broken TV for repair. HORRIBLE SERVICE DO NOT TRUST HISENSE

This TV has a big problem with HDR in gaming, deep blacks are replaced with purple artifacts. I’m surprised I have not seen any professional reviewer mentioned it.

Supposedly Hisense has alredy identified the problem and will release a software update "soon".

  8. Austin C.M. on November 11, 2020 at 1:28 am

No ALLM? Woooooooow, that SUCKS. Other than that, sounds good to me!

That’s not true, I have an H8F and and a Xbox One S, it switches ALLM and Game mode on automatically. When I use Prime, Netflix, ect. It switches off, when I go back to Gaming it switches back on. There’s a prompt showing this in the top left corner of the screen

Is there any resources to test a brand new TV to make sure the one I just bought isn’t a poor sample?

  25. Miguel R on November 11, 2020 at 1:39 am

The reviews for this TV are all over the place. HDR peak brightness range from 600 to 1000 nits across multiple reviewers. I don’t know who to believe anymore.

What’s the ET phone home rating? I’m hesitant in purchasing Chinese brands because they like to gather your data and send it back to the motherland.

  35. D Spera on November 11, 2020 at 1:49 am

I really want to purchase this tv. Does anyone have this wall mounted? The location for the wall mount seem strange being at the bottom of the tv. Also, does it support a Seagate HDD drive plugged right in to view movies without any formatting?

  36. Gonzalo Urtafo on November 11, 2020 at 1:50 am

Folks, wich one do you think is better the Q60T or H8G (in my country does not have dolby vision/atmos) taking into account that the contrast of the Q60T reaches 7000: 1 and the H8G reaches 5000: 1

  37. Lloyd on November 11, 2020 at 1:50 am

I’m checking out to buy this TV in 50inch in Canada (so the Hisense 50Q8G), the TV i have right now is a cheap one, and isn’t having very good gamut as dark colors tend to have ugly gradients.

It’s good to see rtings covered the hisense, as the brand really takes a back seat to other TV mfr’s in general.

The review was ok, I was expecting better. I could have done without the music distractions. But the real gripe here is that this one really needs more comparison data to different models- like Daniel does in his reviews. Things like the Vizio M series R558-G1 and the TCL R617 series, as well LG or Samsung products in a similar midlevel range.

As this is a quantum dot tv, showing and comparing the local dimming with other brand models, is an essential that was a big miss here.

And this was a total miss anything on motion / dirty screen like in the TCL R617 review- that review is the best one rtings has ever done, we need more things showing the sports and hockey like that one did.

    Bottom line:
All these theoretical numbers in the reviews about gamut colors and other such stuff are great and all. But if the motion sucks or the screen looks pixellated, (like even the TCL R617 does on both of those) then the tv set in question – just is not worth it. Based on those type of factors, I could not get a sense that the H8G was worth taking a plunge on after watching this. I might give it a spin later.
