How Cable TV Works
Millions of people receive their television signal through a cable TV connection. Most of them don’t actually know what “cable TV” is, what it does or how it got its name. Find out in this HowStuffWorks video. Credits: , HowStuffWorks
this is laughable.
Nope. Saw this online. TV is for losers.
says amplifier. shows tap
exactly.. this is how you would describe it to a 5 year old kid
@cvelis549 because it does not go out when yo need it the most i can watch tv 24/7 thorogh sleet snow thunder storm sunny day you name i can watch in it but i don’t know about you
So even though its "Cable" T.V there still are satellites involved?
Very Interesting one! Thank you
What is Analogue?
You showed a "tap" not an "amplifier".
I don’t believe you will find any cable provider that is able to produce 200 6MHz channels. Most service providers are able to get a max of 750MHz to 800MHz due to quality of plant issues and older amplifiers. Newer amplifiers are hitting the >1GHz range but I haven’t heard of any providers utilizing the GHz range.
k ty
Actually this is how cable _used_ to work. Very few systems are still analog.
34 people dont have cable
Nope not watching on cable, I found this beautiful new thing called the internet
Marshall Brain, dafuq.
Has anybody ever felt so distant from the rest of everybody by using a Different Type of Box TV service? Back then we all had the same cable service and watched the same shows at the same time.
@imyourhustler thats y i dropped my cable.its just to expensive at least in my eyes.its like 80 bucks a month then the internet bill..i dont really watch tv that much so it doesnt matter and i can watch stuff online..if cable was like 40 bucks i would have no problem paying that but 80 is just to much for what you get,so many people i know feel the same way that if it was around 40 they would have it weather they watch it or not but oh well they want to charge alot then they will keep loosing
@killdeth1 how the fuck did you find this out!?
I just us an antena and still get more junk than I need. The picture is very clear for most channels.
Well that satellite dish at the antenna Farm was a piece of garbage
i wish i had 200 channels
How does cable work? I still don’t know.
SCREW YOUR COMMERCIALS.
and for you people that mention fios? remember that half of the fios systems out there are not 100% fiber. once you go copper to your house the benefits of fiber dwindle quickly… cut out the middle man – reach for the sky – satellite. at least you have two to choose from!
that is a tap what a dumb ass.
It comes through cables thats why the service is called cable service.. Lol are we really this dumb as a civilization? Or please tell me this video is for elementary schools or something
"And modulates them into…" what… how… HOW? This didn’t teach me anything!
LOL 200 channels.. not here on long island
what is a mega hertz channel?????? c’mon – if you are going to dumb it down go all the way! by the way, asphalt is NOT a disease. just thought i would let you know. what is a mega hertz channel? how does it hurt? WTF?!?!?!?!?! REMEMBER MOST PEOPLE OUT HERE HAVE THE IQ OF A WATERMELON. I said "MOST"…..
stupid fuckin video…
OK you literally didn’t tell us how it works
‘
how come NO free cable tv
Fiber is killing the cable companys =D
Interesting…..now can you show me how to hack tv and get it for free?
Cable is the best I get RoadRunner Phone Service and Premium Cable Service for 4 HDTVs and 1 dvr for only $170.00 a month
My bill keept going up and up its now at 600 for cable when they told me it woud be under 73 tottal its a tottal rip off when you can get FTA and skip the middle man cable company
LOL, that’s a tap at :46, not an amp. At :30, the 200 channels are not initially transmitted on coax. At the head end (where the satellites are), RF is converted to light and it’s sent out on fiber optic cable to a node, where it’s reconverted back to RF again. From there, RF travels into neighborhoods via coaxial cable. It is there that signal is amplified. This network is called an "HFC" network (Hybrid Fiber Coax). This video is based on 1980’s technology and 300 MHz systems. Nice try though
@720moorhsum
i wish i didnt have 200 channels, most of them suck, trust me xD
@amcabbott
uBArETAbD ???????
so what we learn here is that the cable companies get their programming from satellites…. hmmm… why not subscribe to satellite? good enough for the cable company, good enough for me! and then you don’t have to worry about NODES being overloaded during peak times because the cable company jams everything down one piece of copper. most cable systems can’t deliver more than 1080i but you can get 1080p off satellite…. that damn copper wire just can’t handle it. ….
wow…im happy for the people who switched on over to antennas….good job people! stick it to tha man(cable) lawl
so thats why my cable doesnt work somtimes because theres a storm in the farm
@imyourhustler
But, I gotta keep up with the Kardashians, man!
chances are im watching this program on a youtube channel for your tv show.
now if only we could find out how the sega channel worked….
> Chances are you’re watching this through Cable TV
*Is using Android Phone*
Why do people pay for commercial television? It’s ridiculous! We grew up in the ’50’s, ’60’s, & ’70’s without paying for television because ADVERTISERS pay to advertise so consumers would watch and buy their products. When cable TV first came about the idea was there would be no commercials. Slowly everything changed and people now pay to watch advertisements! INSANE! People give away all of their power mindlessly. Stop paying to watch TV and see how fast it becomes free again.
exactly this is how you would describe it to a 5 year old kid
Cut The Cable Baby!!!!!
i can show you how to fill out a job application and pay for it
