I don’t think every appliance can operate safe with step down transformer as I have seen manual instructions that come with the appliance stating that it is not designed to work outside the voltage range even if Transformers are used. The best way is to use local products as you pretty much get everything you need everywhere.

Despite using a step-down transformer sourced from a local electrical shop, my device broke 🙁
I took my device to the electrical store, showed them the voltage specifications and all and bought my step-down transformer and as soon as my came home and plugged my device in to start using it, it started to fume from the power socket/switchboard emitting heavy black smoke leaving the device broken. It was so scary and thank god that was not a major accident. I have tried getting another for a couple of times but it was more or less the same and none really worked (4 transformers were a huge failure!). I have 5-6 appliances with me now but never dared to use them or try getting a step-down transformer for them since then. I have seen similar things happen with my friends and their families too! Do you think they really work well and are safe? It would be of great help to me if you could share some links where I can purchase them online.

why do people in india die to use products from US ? get something from india and use without any issues

  9. Murali Krishna Valluri on January 15, 2020 at 3:51 am

I think these days majority of the appliances are rated 110-240 volts, so a simple US to India socket converter would work.
