Its both. And just because its entertainment doesn’t mean its not a waste of time.

  2. lifehound101 on May 17, 2020 at 4:10 pm

If anything that you do isn’t ultimately helping others, you are wasting your time. Gaming can help you get used to stress under pressure and improve quick decision making which in turn can be used to help others. But the moment gaming changes from a tool to a replacement, it all falls apart.

Ever since I quit last week I feel such a void. If this normal?

The same people who say gaming is a waste of time are the same people that watch tv or Netflix all day without a care

  5. Le DiceThrower on May 17, 2020 at 4:11 pm

When you finish a game or you exit a 4h gaming session, you lost time and energy and gained nothing.

I don’t even know why I’m still playing games anymore. I just play and after all I’m thinking I should stop play but in the other day I’m playing again. At least I’m going to gym and work but I don’t give the attention that my daughter and wife deserve to be.

  9. Γιωργος Παπαδοπουλος on May 17, 2020 at 4:17 pm

Yes gaming is huge waste of time. If you want to see how time consuming and pointless it is, just make an experiment and completely quit for a week. You will see by yourselves what you have been missing!

  10. LedBeatle 7072 on May 17, 2020 at 4:18 pm

I definitely play more than 3 hours a day. I’m trying not to play as much, but all I usually do instead is watch things on my phone. It was causing me to stay up late, so one night I decided to get more sleep by simply winding down earlier. I wasn’t able to sleep at all that night. I’ve been self conscious and depressed about gaming and using my phone for a while. Since I can’t sleep, I feel like those are the easiest things to do because I have hardly any energy. It’s been almost a week since that night and I’ve had severe anxiety while trying to get to sleep each night. I really don’t know what to do at the moment, so instead of watching entertainming videos, I’m trying to watch videos that might help me get somewhere and sort out my problems so that I can finally sleep well. I’ve also only been able to sleep by taking medications which really makes me feel stupid because I don’t want to get addicted to something else. All these things put together makes me not want to live anymore. I don’t want to act on that thought, and I don’t think I could bring myself to do it, but I feel hardly any positive emotions or enjoyment in life at this point. All my other hobbies and interests seem impossible because I’m so physically exhausted, but my mind is racing. I find some comfort and relaxation through talking to people, but it’s hard to talk to my family when they’re sleeping, and I don’t want them to have trouble sleeping because of me. I’ve talked to my mom during the day, but I still feel like I need to tell her more every night, even when I have nothing to say. I have a doctor’s appointment in 2 days, but that feels like forever, especially if I can’t sleep the next two nights. I’ve never had this much trouble sleeping in my entire life, and I have a feeling it’s due to withdrawal and a number of other stressors. I keep trying to let my stress out each day, but all I can think of at night is how badly I want to sleep, which stresses me out more and makes me more awake. I also don’t want to sleep at all during the day, so that I can get on a healthy sleep schedule eventually, but it just makes days drag on.

I think gaming should be done in moderation at best UNLESS you want a career that is related to gaming.

Geez, now I want to take the challenge also … 90 days with NO GAME at all ? I have so many fields that I want to improve in my life. I’ll give it a try now. Thanks for all the effort that you do man.

Do you believe that competitive games like those with ranked mode are most harmful and should be avoided? I have problem with game addiction and I afraid when I think play some game like hearthstone or starcraft 2 or mobas and back to hell that was my life.

  15. lorenzo on May 17, 2020 at 4:24 pm

i think is not a waste of time i think is a passion, you can play videogames 6 hours a day, you can do gym 6 hours a day, you can work 6 hours a day there is a plenty things to do and all of them take time, but 1 thing that i like on videogames is that i never get bored of doing it and they don’t make me spend alot of money. i have always played games since i was a kid but i also have worked every day finished school and before school I did physical activity and i have a really nice body because I have always taken care of myself. Now im in a situation where i have a passion when i return from work and i have alot of money saved, i also have my car and my motorcycle buy with my money and im happy with myself now.
i know alot of ppl that have alot of things (they dont play videogames 100% haha) but you see them that they are not happy because you can have a family you can have money you can have a nice car but if you "spend" 10 hours a day in a work that you hate for have this things thats make no sense.
so in final i think im a person that i see and i tried to do alot of things but no one as interested me more then my pc and my videogames, yes i dont have a wonderful social life but im just facing the reality and im working on myself…
i certainly dont have a grateful work but who this day have one… and if they have one they truly happy with themselves? you think doing nice thing it satisfies you? yes maybe for the first month…after that you won’t even be able to see anymore of it.
in my opinion, video games are the latest to blame… the problem is you and your life and quitting videogames makes you millionare? pff

  16. videogalore on May 17, 2020 at 4:25 pm

Ironically my issue is actually YouTube rather than gaming, but it’s completely along the same lines as some of your videos I have found today (when searching for escapism)!
I know I’m doing it, I know that it’s rarely helpful, but feel I don’t have the willpower to stop. I’ve got the ‘Focus’ app to block it for given periods of time, but I’m too good at procrastinating with other things once I’ve set up a 2 hour block on YT!

Other girl: Ew girlfriend, I don’t even play western RPGs.

  19. 8Ightz on May 17, 2020 at 4:28 pm

I don’t think people should be blaming video games for their struggle in life because they’re the ones not managing their time, they’re responsible for what they’re doing, they chose their life to be that way.

So it’s not the video games fault, really.

  20. - Alexmegamind - on May 17, 2020 at 4:28 pm

No. You live in a world, see new places, learn new things relevant to the game. Like reading or binging your favourite tv series, it’s an easy form of entertainment, although less intellectual than the former

  21. Preacher Of Blood on May 17, 2020 at 4:29 pm

I mean you are addicted if this kind of self reflection does not come to you by itself, but for those who are, i think this video might be crucial indeed

  22. Jimmy Quach on May 17, 2020 at 4:29 pm

Hey Cam! Subscribed to your channel recently. I want to quit gaming once and for all since it has been hurting me and keeping me from really enjoying all that life actually has in store for a person like myself. Currently, I’m in college working towards getting my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts which I hope to use as a foundation for a master’s in Public Administration. Now I happen to be a huge fan of MMOs and am curious in thinking that for a possible video maybe you could discuss the types of games that are notorious for getting people addicted and reasons why a person should avoid them or not.
My own mother worries about my financial future and my overall happiness should this severe addiction to gaming 🎮 begin to take full control of my life. So, I hope you can find some ways to help me including others fight against such an addiction.

  24. M a Smith on May 17, 2020 at 4:32 pm

As I’ve seen over the years I’ve been gaming less and less putting more hours into gym, guitar, drawing and trading I think that I’ve been replacing more of what I used to do and feel more productive in life as I’ve got older. Although I miss it learning new skills is more fun than actual gaming and without getting angry or upset.

  25. Mathieu Lareau on May 17, 2020 at 4:37 pm

You post videos of really good quality in content and I appreciate that. Your moderated position which, I think, relates more with our human reality is spot on. Well done on this wonderful video!! I do believe gaming can serve a constructive and relaxing purpose that stays healthy, but it is, in my view, the binging addicted periods quite often accompanying new releases that are more problematic.

    what games do girls play

  33. The Doom Slayer on May 17, 2020 at 4:48 pm

It depends. Gaming is meant to be for entertainment purposes (most of the time) and can be enjoyed. As long as you balance it with other things like doing outdoor activities or going to an event. But it isn’t the kind of thing where "it’s not worth your time. Don’t try it." Now there ARE people who have gotten MONEY from playing games. Now mind you, these people are FAR more experienced than the common gamer. But if you are somehow good enough, it is possible. But there are people who just aren’t interested in gaming. That’s completely fine. People have their likes and dislikes. But if your against any thing video games and actively try to stop other people from even showing the slightest interest in it, than you can automatically be identified as an idiot and an asshole (i’m looking at you, *Karen.)*

  34. Quest for a Meaningful Life on May 17, 2020 at 4:51 pm

Good to see this issue being covered. Once I took away all the easy and instant ways to entertain myself, I was forced to actually do interesting things in the REAL world in order to be entertained. Now I work on a real-life project with the immersion and satisfaction of a game, but with real-life rewards.

  35. ArmoredClown on May 17, 2020 at 4:51 pm

Gaming is only a waste of time if it’s becoming an addictive behavior (like alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc). If you feel like you NEED to play without understanding why then it is a waste of time. HOWEVER for the vast majority of people who play games like myself it is simply a hobby I enjoy to do strictly for fun and decompress after a long day working and taking care of my kids and wife. Once everyone gets their time and my attention then it’s ME TIME. That’s as simple as it is.

  36. panda danda on May 17, 2020 at 4:51 pm

is it just me that want o play less but have nothing else to do ?

  37. Airmoney95 on May 17, 2020 at 4:51 pm

I don’t game but after a certain age I think it becomes a waste of time. But if you want to devote your time and stay in all day 24-7 gaming that’s not my business so idc. You do you, but I’m going out hiking/hanging out with friend/ ect.

  38. Mercury on May 17, 2020 at 4:56 pm

Im 17 and i sometimes think i waste my life by playing alot of video games but it makes me feel good and i make friends because im getting better at the game. Im still in school but if i would not game wouldnt know what to do besides homework. So should i quit? They only thing is i would probably find a new hobby like skateboarding and drawing but isnt in the end everything that doesnt make you money a waste of time? Or am i just to negative about everything in life?

  39. MindrapeJr on May 17, 2020 at 4:58 pm

if you think gaming is a waste of time, than you should say the same for ANY form of media, or even any form of entertainment.
that includes books, children playing with toys and doing anything for the sake of fun.
you people obviously miss the point of gaming or entertainment in general.
its just something to do when you have free time. something to relax with after having a stressful day.

i’m not going to tell you how to live. since you didnt tell me how to.
but all work and no play is a sad life.
you don’t need to be productive 100% of the time to have a fulfilling life.
thats for whatever the individual decides.

yes gaming can be addictive and cause IRL problems.
but gaming has also been studied and shown positive effects.
for example. doctors, specifcally surgeons, who play fast paced games that require precision and speed, tend to operate faster and more accurately.
    https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/02/070220012341.htm

puzzle games have been shown to help prevent alzhemiers.
can’t remember the exact source for this one, but should make sense, since puzzles make you think.

look the point is, just because its not productive, doesnt make it a waste of time.
only the individual person can decide that for themselves.

you know, i feel that most teenagers game because many hobbies cant be practiced while also goin to school, you may be tired after school, or your schedule gets in the way or what ever, at least thats my experience, although i’d like to do something else, yet i havent discovered activities that realy fullfil or relax me. (other than playing the piano)
i am a little bit afraid what life will be like when going to work, although a job which is fun would make everything easier i feel like i have not enough time to try everything out nor the flexibility (school) to do it.

during school break i always find myself thinking about what i could do with all this time, what i would enjoy but still i know i am not an adult so i could not just spend money on a car and take it apart only because it interests me, nor could i do most other stuff, i also life in a town so not much to do here, normally you dont see people in your age that you dont know so pretty boring

i would like to hear your thoughts on my situation, since the big change i feel will come when i finished school in 1,5 years

  48. Glory to God on May 17, 2020 at 5:05 pm

I agree with you that its a waste of time and you’re better off quitting. But the reason I have a hard time is because it lets me experience a character and abilities that nothing compares to in real life. And real life activities just sound boring and lame in comparison. Especially if you’re broke and cant even do most of them. Again, not that its a good excuse, just a reason why its hard.

  49. Aj Battle on May 17, 2020 at 5:06 pm

Started a month off of gaming at the start of the new year. For me gaming has wasted a lot of my life. Especially as I’m creative and want to have a career in it so free time outside of work should be spent on making art. Video games are much much easier then doing anything with my life and human minds are lazy they want to do the easiest thing. Because video games can be played forever they will always come before your dreams.

  50. Ice Flow on May 17, 2020 at 5:06 pm

Gaming is escapism for people who are depressed. It makes you run away from your life.

It’s better to face your life head in and enjoy it and confront your problems, cure that depression
