KSUN KSM3 Radio Programming Tutorial

KSUN KSM3 Radio Programming Tutorial

Just a short video I made to show the software required to programme the KSUN KSM3 two way radios. This software is hard to find and doesn’t currently appear on the KSUN website so I’ve provided a link for anyone who needs this below:

https://reviews.transmission1.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/KSUN_KSM3.zip

My particular radios needed a password in order to program them with the software. If yours asks for a password you can try: 753951.

It will probably also work with the M1 and M2 variants of this radio but haven’t confirmed this. If anyone knows of any better or alternative software that can programme these radios then please leave a comment below!

Hope this helps someone!

Helps a lot! But unfortunately the password does not work on my M2. What were the alternative (wrong) passwords you got?

Hello, great review. I’m thinking of buying these radios for camping in the United States. Will I need to reprogram these? Can I use these right out of the box?

For those interested about the software side, a few tips to help you get started:

    Software for flashing the Radios:
    – See the description of the video.

    USB to Serial driver:
    http://www.prolific.com.tw/UserFiles/files/PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1200.zip

If you plugged your radio inside before installing the drivers, go to device manager, find the incorrectly configured device and uninstall it’s driver. Then plug it in again. It should then work as expected.

For some reason, the software only allows selecting a few COM ports. Mine was COM 20 or something, so of course it didn’t work. Fix: -> Go to device manager -> Prolific device -> properties -> Advanced -> choose another free port. Any number from 1-8 should be fine as long as it’s marked as free.

If you write an empty file to the radio, it will not even boot properly. You can fix this by inserting the frequencies found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMR446 in the spreadsheet, then write it back to the radio and it should work as expected.

The USB-to-Serial USB cable is a bit special, a normal micro USB-C won’t do the job and writing and reading is impossible.

If you are positive that you are using the correct cable and password, yet cannot write or read from it, unplug the USB cable from your computer, re-insert it, power up the radio and then try again.

If you accidentally enter a non-valid password and press write, chances are the password was removed altogether. If this happens, leave the password field empty and try again.

    Hope this helps : )

Good video! The problem is the radio’s spec says; up to 480MHZ and the program is limited to 470MHz

You had more luck than me. Mine would not detect the COM port even though the correct one was selected.
