On today’s home front very little thought is given to throwing a load of laundry into the machine, stacking the dishes into the dishwasher, and quickly running the vacuum before jumping into the car for a quick trip to the store to pick up dinner. Washing machines, dishwashers, vacuums, automobiles, and numerous other machines are more or fewer givens as accessories to contemporary life. Of course, some people do not possess these accouterments, but, most can be rented or used at commercial facilities. Whether they are owned or let, the power to operate these various machines is obligingly available. At the end of the 20th century, these types of machines and the power to run them have become integral parts of modern life.

If you haven’t already, you should do a video on electric ranges, refrigerators and washing machines from the 1950s! They were very beautiful and multi functional , better than the appliances we have today!

  5. Lina 1983 on March 18, 2022 at 1:22 pm

Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, & Gen Z women wouldn’t survive a day using all these. 🤣

no wonder our foremothers had biceps like gorgeous george (or for the younger crowd here, Dwayne ‘the rock’ Johnson). as for the cook stoves, after high school and before i realized i had to go back to college, i lived up in the mountains with my friend. she had electricity for lights but that was it. two seater outhouse, windlass pump or natural spring for water, and a wood cookstove. took me a long time to master that beast while Loretta could get a flame going and start cooking within half an hour. after awhile, though, it was easy to figure out high, medium and low. definitely not a stove for people who want instant gratification.

I’ll take close social support of the poor. It is more conducive to better mental health than the rich poll’s customs.

Your theme music makes me believe this load of clothes is not going to turn out well.

  28. Dennis Mitchell on March 18, 2022 at 1:53 pm

As a recently subscribed viewer to your channel I haven’t seen one video yet I haven’t liked. Do you think you could eventually do one on Victorian era Syphilis victims ? . Keep up the great work !

  29. Robert Schwartz on March 18, 2022 at 1:56 pm

If you look closely at the white ceramic toaster you’ll see that instead of a plug it has a screw in socket. People didn’t have many wall sockets so it screwed into a light fixture (electrolier).

  30. Green Ghoul on March 18, 2022 at 1:56 pm

It would be cool to have an old fashioned toaster for bonfire toast

  31. michele braughler on March 18, 2022 at 1:57 pm

I’m pretty sure if my daughter had to use one of these she wouldnt be changing her clothes 4 times a day.

  32. Charlotte H. on March 18, 2022 at 1:58 pm

I like the horrible music, hehe

  35. Brian Keith Null on March 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm

What’s with the creepy music? Same as watching old death photos where the deceased are posed as being still alive.

  36. Gail Cirac on March 18, 2022 at 2:03 pm

Old appliances better built, longer lasting, more convenient than these new ones.

  37. princess in mittens on March 18, 2022 at 2:04 pm

Where would the ice come from?

  38. Gale Bailey on March 18, 2022 at 2:05 pm

My mom grew up during the Great Depression, so she frequently talked about what life was like then. She talked about ice boxes, and of the ice man who came to the neighborhood delivering free ice blocks. Until now, I’d never seen photos of them showing all the compartments. Thanks for uploading this!

  39. rick mack on March 18, 2022 at 2:07 pm

LOL….what else but an advertisement for kitchen appliances should come up

  40. Ellie Lopez on March 18, 2022 at 2:08 pm

Vacuum cleaners now have you like where the heck does the trash go! As a late millennial, new technology seems more complicated than old. The old ones are common sense.

  41. Movie Nerd on March 18, 2022 at 2:09 pm

100 years from now people will think that the idea of using a device (smartphone) that could give you cancer and make you sterile absolutely terrifying.

  42. Erika Kathleen on March 18, 2022 at 2:09 pm

I just turned 50 but saw that air conditioner in use as a child and many of these items in grandparents garage as a kid. Old black one ear piece cone shaped phone that weighed a lot. Glass milk bottles in metal box on stoop, those ice boxes w/latches, metal ice tray with handle, I’ve used those as a small child. This stuff was all still around hanging out in peoples houses or in their yard or garage in the early 1970s. New York City Suburbs. The stoves are still in use to this day, yes.

  43. StormyStars on March 18, 2022 at 2:11 pm

Lol! There are still a lot of all these around and in almost new conditions as some people still use them. I used at least 90%, of one or another if not most forms of these appliances including a salted meat dryer, a special wooden stove for canning/jarring some meats, as well as a smoker to cure meat or fish. And I am not THAT old lol! I guess people or some people just have kept by them in families for certain things that they are of better to use than some of the modern variety lol!😂. Sorry. I just find it kind of funny that they are listed as old items vintage items that people USED to use lol!

  45. Areana Sanchez on March 18, 2022 at 2:12 pm

  46. Debbie D on March 18, 2022 at 2:13 pm

When my mother was a child, one of her "jobs" was to empty the drip pan of the ice box. She absolutely hated it. When Grampa finally got the money he bought a "brand new" Serval Monitor top. She said it was like magic!

  47. Jalisco123 on March 18, 2022 at 2:14 pm

The music makes me feel like im watching a horror film

  48. She Is Brit on March 18, 2022 at 2:15 pm

Everyone is talking about how great these appliances were back then but I bet none of yall would want to live in those times.
