Beautiful Painted Lady
In the small town of Schulenburg, Texas there is a cottage built in 1905 that is of the greatest charm. It is a beautiful gem, a petite fantasy, and it is available for purchase. The walk up to this painted lady gives a glimpse of what might be inside. A large wide stoop lands on a porch that is protected by balusters and a balustrade, of the most exquisite Stick and Ball gingerbread, wrapping around two sides of the exterior. This balustrade also protects the most wonderful and original bay window. The front entry door, which is also original, is flanked by side by side windows with a transom overhead. The foyer of the home is wide and is typical of the era and showcases two very wide openings that are embellished with wonderful detail. These wide doorways open into the public and private areas from this foyer. To the right is the parlor which leads to all public areas of the home, i.e., dining room, the kitchen and the utility area and to the left the main bedroom leads to the private areas of the home, i.e., 2 more bedrooms, a sitting area and a wonderful Victorian bathroom. There is much period detail in this home. Long leaf pine floors, much decorative crown molding, original doors and windows, french doors, magnificent wainscoting that is tastefully placed and the list goes on.
It would truly be remiss to not make special mention of the galley kitchen with many windows placed above the lower cabinets. This allows sunlight to stream through shelves strategically placed in front of them for the display and storage of country dishes of all descriptions. There is also a great vintage Okeefe and Merritt stove and stainless appliances. Just put on your apron and have fun. Please view the many photos that show this treasure. And then make an appointment 24 hours in advance to preview this lovely and unique property.
