Sharks vs. Whale Carcass off Georgia Coast

Sharks vs. Whale Carcass off Georgia Coast

This video from late February 2018 documents the discovery of a humpback whale carcass nearly 30 miles off Cumberland Island, and how sharks — including some large great whites — quickly scavenged the 28-foot-long whale until little was left. The video was done by Georgia DNR in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Sea to Shore Alliance and NOAA. (Images and buoy attachment conducted under NOAA Fisheries permit #18786, issued to NOAA Fisheries’ Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Program.)
