Socially Responsible Ways to Dispose of Electronics ♻ Electronic Recycling Tips – DIY in 5 Ep 56

Here are a few electronic recycling tips. Old gadgets usually end up in your closet or your garage and stay there for years! You should donate or recycle your old PCs, TVs and phones to groups that will fix them, clean them, and put them back into use. But when there are electronics that even charities won’t accept, you should not just throw old electronics away. E-waste is potentially dangerous because it can contain toxic metals and chemicals that are fine while the device is in use but would become hazardous in a landfill. e-Stewards http://e-stewards.org/data/list-recyclers/ has a list of locations that are guaranteed to make sure your old stuff is recycled safely and in a socially responsible manner. Just like Captain Planet, they have a mission to create a toxic-free future and are campaigning for everyone’s right to a clean environment. In the US, Best Buy has a retail recycling program, but there may be a nominal fee such as $25 to take an old TV. Office Depot has a Tech Recycling Service where you buy a recycling box and put as many devices in there for a flat rate in the range of $5 to $15.

If you just can’t part with gadgets like an old Android tablet and you want to turn them into something productive, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-D5PdHaYc8

You call that old??? I have a Commodore 64 from 1985 along with the cassette memory drive. Alas, the power supply is shot, so I have no idea if it still works.

I have a Sony s tablet that was previously 4.4 os. However, I rebooted it and it reverted back to 4.1 solved my slow response issue but created a new one I cant update it back to 4.4. Do you have any videos that might tell me what I can do to update it when there are no updates available any longer and apps don’t want to work on it any longer?

My family still has our old 16 year old Compaq computer with one of the first 1 Ghz CPU.

Personally, I have a T-mobile MyTouch 3G somewhere in my old home bedroom. I’m thinking of selling my Xbox 360 slim just to get rid of it.

    PLEASE PAY ATTENTION

Do not recycle or donate your old tech, sell it on eBay or somewhere else. It is extremely wasteful to recycle working devices and even broken ones.

In fact today I went to Target today and snagged a perfect condition lg aristo on Android 7.0 from their phone recycling bib

I love the fact that some thrift stores will not take old electronics. Got one that I drop by every week and they just give me electronics. Some actually fall in the category of vintage and worth alot on eBay. And some are as good as new and I use them. My house does look like something you might see on an episode of hoarders.
