Which keyboard should you buy?

It’s probably the most common question I get asked as a piano teacher. My answer is usually…

It depends.

But there are 3 beginner keyboards (digital pianos) that regularly come up as the best keyboards for beginners.

They are the Yamaha P125, the Casio Privia PX-S3000, and the Roland FP-10.

What is you review of the Casio CT-S1…..? Just released a few weeks ago. Not weighted keys.

  3. THE GUIZER on September 2, 2021 at 8:47 pm

i think P45b is better than FP-10.. in sound .yamaha P45 is really warm and soothing at that price range

Muchas gracias por tus recomendaciones hoy tengo un nuevo piano Yamaha P-125.

  5. Ardee de la Rosa on September 2, 2021 at 8:49 pm

P125 is not a beginner piano. P45 on the other hand is. Another one on my list is Alesis Recital Stage/Pro or Alesis Concert.

  6. Raddis Shahidi on September 2, 2021 at 8:52 pm

Don’t agree with prehistoric weighted keys. A semi-weighted keyboard would be better special for young people

So unfortunately, I can not afford a $600-800 keyboard. My daughter wants a keyboard for her 13-th b’day. So I have started researching. She is a beginner and will be taking lessons soon after purchase. What do you think of the Yamaha PSR- EW320 76 keys? It is on Amazon for $269.99. I have read the description and read every review and it sounds satisfactory. Only it seems the speakers are not the greatest, I could always add speakers. I would love your professional opinion. This keyboard rates high for it’s price range, but really I’m no expert. Once she progress, and I see her ready and willing we will invest in a higher end keyboard. Thanks, your video is inspiring! 😊

You should consider doing a similar video detailing more budget friendly options.

I know it will mean making sacrifices but I know many people (myself included) simply don’t have the money to invest in the options you mention here.

I like how you emphasize the key feeling and sound though since that is my main concern as well.

I’m currently considering the casio ct-s1 which sounds great but is only semi-weighted and has only 61 keys. But being under 200 dollars is closer to what I can afford.

  22. Emko _ on September 2, 2021 at 9:07 pm

    What I want:
    • Good sounding piano
    • 61 keys above
    • Durable
    • Has lots of features
    • Sustain
    • touch sensitive
    • Good quality speakers
    • weighted keys
    • around 200€
Please some1 help me with that

  23. Wilderness Music on September 2, 2021 at 9:08 pm

Beginner piano if digital…1) 88 keys 2) Weighted action 3) Velocity sensitive 4) Consistent front to back weight of key action and black and white key with proper weight ratio. Without #4 playing chords accurately will be almost impossible for a beginner or an expert.

  24. Akshara Ramakumar on September 2, 2021 at 9:08 pm

Personally I recommend the Yamaha psr-e463. I have this keyboard and it’s perfect and has all the stuff! Has touch sensitive and so many styles

  25. David Molinari on September 2, 2021 at 9:11 pm

    How about the
    Yamaha DGX670B 88-key?

  26. RationalAxis on September 2, 2021 at 9:17 pm

These are digital pianos, you should tell the difference to people

  27. Jerry Spencer on September 2, 2021 at 9:17 pm

I have a Yamaha P-121 which has all of the same features of the P-125, with one difference – it has 73 keys which is actually more than I have ever used. I have never used the absolute highest and lowest notes, so why buy them? I like it; it was great to get started with, but next year I want to buy a Kawai MP7SE, which has won many international awards. Happy practicing and best wishes, Jerry.

  28. Bill Harris on September 2, 2021 at 9:18 pm

I initially tried to go the cheap route, buying a used (old) compact keyboard. After playing with it for 1 day, I could see I was setting myself up for failure so, looked for a 88 key, with weighted touch sensitive keys. After looking at numerous keyboards, along with hundreds of reviews, I ended going with the Alesis Recital Pro, with a current street price of $379 US. It’s not perfect according to the Pros but, appeared to be the best overall compromise for my needs (having a very limited budget). It is very simple, only 12 voices with some effects, which is what I wanted to minimize confusion. So far it has exceeded my expectations. The only drawback is the lack of an included sustain pedal but, it uses a standard 1/4" phone plug pedal, which is very common and low cost.

Thank you so much. You are very informative. I love music. With that said I love learning new music. I would like to ask, what is the title of the songs you were doing as an introduction to the lesson? I really liked the sound of it even as an intro. Thanks in advance.

  32. jav t on September 2, 2021 at 9:21 pm

all of these were sadly too expensive for my budget so i got a 61 keys medeli m361 but now i’m worrying over it being only 61 keys. was it a waste of money? i truly didn’t have more hahaha

Is the ZHRUNS 88 key weighted piano good?

  43. Rick on September 2, 2021 at 9:38 pm

Just watched the video and I’m here to report my ownership of my Yamaha P-125…I am definitely a beginner but no one recommended me the keyboard…I just went to the store, tried out some songs that I learned a bit, then fell in love and purchased it! Look for a store that has some financing available and can do maintenance on it! I never had problems in the 6 months of ownership but since it is a $600+ asset, you definitely want to make sure you’re backed up by someone. Anyways, super friendly keyboard, speakers are loud and clear, but can be turned down or even completely off, metronome is super useful and has a recording function built in if you want to hear how you played to analyze your progress. 10/10

  44. SEAN TRAN on September 2, 2021 at 9:38 pm

You’re imaging, Lucky I found your video. You’re fun, friendly, details and instructions, I totally love you. Are you teach online? I wish to be your student.

  47. Alastair Wallace on September 2, 2021 at 9:43 pm

The presenter needs to learn to keep her hands at peace. Far to much arm waving and it distracts from the information she wants to impart.

  48. danieldpt on September 2, 2021 at 9:43 pm

I got the casio before I watched this video. Lots of good reviews and not to expensive

  49. Gauri Deshpande on September 2, 2021 at 9:44 pm

I’m an intermediate and looking for classical tones with western touch keyboard for my home setup. Should I get yamaha psr1500 n get another keyboard later or should I buy korg pa700 as one time investment? If someone professional could help..
