Metal gear 2 on the MSX is the best 8 bits game i EVER played.

  8. Wonder Creation Studios on June 3, 2020 at 5:04 pm

I’m pretty shocked that a game like River City Ransom could make a top 10 rather than Double Dragon II.

  9. The Fish Hero on June 3, 2020 at 5:08 pm

  14. Zenox 35 on June 3, 2020 at 5:12 pm

Contra was and still is a worldwide sensation.

  18. Indraneel Mukherjee on June 3, 2020 at 5:14 pm

Knew Mario would be #1, but wished it was Contra. I can mention few games that deserve in top 10 and were way better than most others mentioned here: Kage, Final Mission (aka SCAT), Double Dragon (one featuring the ninja Ranzou, probably III), DJ Boy (probably most underrated 8 bit game ever), Mission Impossible and Kickmaster.

  19. Roach on June 3, 2020 at 5:14 pm

  24. PG on June 3, 2020 at 5:18 pm

So it’s effectively nearly top 10 NES games.

  25. Rooty Kazooty on June 3, 2020 at 5:22 pm

OMG. The omission of Commodore 64 games completely undermines this list.
The C64 is hands down the best 8-bit gaming system ever made. It smokes everything else with awesome games like The Last Ninja/Last Ninja 2, Creatures/Creatures 2, Turrican II, Stunt Car Racer, Speedball 2, Winter Games, Midnight Resistance, Elite, IK+, Barbarian II….

  32. fr_schmidlin on June 3, 2020 at 5:31 pm

This should be named the "top 10 NES games, with one SMS game selected just to not make it so obvious"…

  33. CenturianEagle on June 3, 2020 at 5:33 pm

Dragon warrior 4 was awesome!!!!!!!! And wow I never appreciated before how much Mario 3 was improved from Mario 1 (not gonna mention Mario 2, although I enjoyed it, it’s kind of irrelevant) but like if you think about Mario 1, and then Mario 3 which is like its sequel, think about how much was added! It’s gotta be like the most heavily improved sequel ever (improved from its previous entry in the series, though I’m sure you all knew what I meant.)

  39. CPCeiro on June 3, 2020 at 5:46 pm

This list doesn’t include any game from Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, MSX computer system, Amstrad CPC… it doesn’t make sense: Metal Gear Solid 2 for MSX is the best 8 bit game ever made, hands down!

  40. Mark Kanaar on June 3, 2020 at 5:46 pm

The sega master system had some far better games then what is listed. Phantasy Star, Wonderboy III, Sonic the Hedgehog and Alex Kidd in Miracle World are worth playing the system.

  41. caleberiel on June 3, 2020 at 5:48 pm

What is the epic melody starting at 3:17? 😮

  42. Art Sin on June 3, 2020 at 5:49 pm

Growing up with the Nes and recently catching up with Sega Master System games via emulation. I call this top 10 complete bullshit.. Shinobi is not the greatest SMS game not by a long stretch. There’s at least 20 games ahead of it. Oh. Wonderboy 3 in the dragon trap is the by far the best 8-bit game i’ve played and its not even on your top 10 list?? Lol

  43. SIDD EARNER on June 3, 2020 at 5:51 pm

    give me cassette link

  44. mopbrothers on June 3, 2020 at 5:51 pm

Castlevania is not fun. Difficulty is unfair. Rest of the list is good.

  45. Maximus Panin on June 3, 2020 at 5:52 pm

    8:51 what movie ? ))

  46. - ZERØ - on June 3, 2020 at 5:54 pm

How is Undertale not on this list?

  47. Magandang Buhay on June 3, 2020 at 5:55 pm

We used the word “gigantic” in those days, not the millenial creation “ginormous.” The words of our generation were “rad,” “cool,” “dude,” “gnarly.” For a full list watch Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

We lived in Generation X. Our music was groups like INXS, Def Leapard, Guns N’ Roses, ACDC, The Police, Depeche Mode, Oingo Boingo. Our generation would be proud to sing, “I’m Bad. I’m Bad. You know it!”

We watched movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Conan the Barbarian, Terminator, Rambo, and Red Dawn. There were no cell phones, so we’d be out riding our BMX dirt bikes and skate boards when not at the movies. It was common for all the neighborhood kids to meet in the middle of the street that we lived on, have water gun fights in the day, and at night and play kick the can. When we were not playing in the streets we were digging ditches in the undeveloped land “over the fence” to make forts, and play king of the hill on the dirt mounds we created.

Mullets, mohawks, and cut off jeans were were cool. We’d put lawnmower spark plugs in dirt bikes to get back on the trail. We’d have birthday parties where we stayed up all night watching wrastling and then wrestled in the front yard with our neighbors, all promising to grow up and be like the Ultimate Warior, and Hulk Hogan.

Two of the games not mentioned in this list were Altered Beast, Mortal Kombat, which parents did not like very much. Our parents tried to tell us that everything will be perfect when we grew up if we’d just listen to what the teacher says, but we would turn up the music louder, “We don’t need no education…Hey teacher! Leave those kids alone!”
