S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series is based on the book "roadside picnic" by Strugatski brothers

  2. Jason Lingel on July 26, 2020 at 8:27 pm

Shadowrun is also very close to William Gibson’s Sprawl Trilogy, starting with Neuromancer.

  6. BrianDMS on July 26, 2020 at 8:32 pm

Btw. Alvin from TW1 isn’t as shitty of a character as you might think. You remember the Grand Master of the Order of the Flaming Rose, Jacques de Aldersberg, don’t you? 😉

  7. MrTomatoPoop on July 26, 2020 at 8:33 pm

  10. lordodin92 dietrying on July 26, 2020 at 8:40 pm

Okay so you forgot games like sherlock holms or Dante’s inferno. I get it they aren’t just based off books but directly tied to them but to forget bioshock and it’s being based off of ayn rands book atlas shrugged is too impressive to miss the way that bioshock brings to life the books story of a city fallen from grace with the added commentary against religion, communism, politics, humanity and morality. simply put bioshock would not have been bioshock without atlas shrugged

No Bloodborne? The game was entirely inspired by Lovecrafts novels

  12. AnaxErik4ever on July 26, 2020 at 8:41 pm

Interesting that you didn’t include American McGee’s Alice and its sequel, even if they deviate and expand a bit on the lore from the books. Cool to learn about the original Assassin’s Creed being based on a book.

  13. Pixel_Rogue on July 26, 2020 at 8:47 pm

man, :/ kinda surprised to not hear anything about Dante’s Inferno

  14. Charred Albino on July 26, 2020 at 8:49 pm

Aw sweet. I’m playing the first Witcher game because right after starting wild hunt I felt like I was missing a lot of lore. And now there are books that fill the amnesia gap? Thank you.

I had no idea the Witcher was based on a book series. Now I have something new to read.

Oh, and No Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy from Infocom? That is perhaps the greatest text adventure ever made.

One of my favorite games as a child was Dune: Battle for Arrakis on the Genesis, and I’ll give you three guesses what one of my favorite book series is. It also is responsible for my appreciation for RTS games.

Very disappointed you didnt include S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in with the same creators of Metro 2033 as it was much more interesting. Stalker was based on a movie called Stalker which was based on the book Roadside Picnic. Very disappoint…

  30. Josué Patiño on July 26, 2020 at 9:04 pm

    So glad you included Metro

  32. Louis Yank on July 26, 2020 at 9:05 pm

Heart of Darkness inspiring both Spec Ops the Line and Far Cry 2? That’s the only one I see missing at first glance.

  33. beccatron on July 26, 2020 at 9:05 pm

Tales of phantasia was sort of based on a novel and by novel I mean unpublished manuscript called Tale Fantasia, seriously this thing was never published before the game came out and there are no details on it. The closest things we get of the original manuscript were the Tales of Phantasia game as well as Tales of Symphonia which is a distant prequel to Phantasia, a prequel novel concerning some world building elements that were in the original Tale Fantasia, and the Tales of Phantasia sequel games that foddle around with Phantasia’s backstory.

  34. Mohammad DaSyrian on July 26, 2020 at 9:06 pm

  35. krux02 on July 26, 2020 at 9:07 pm

  36. Martin Kollmann on July 26, 2020 at 9:07 pm

This just made me want to play the Witcher series all the more. Also, as I am an avid reader, I will have to look for "The Last Wish" as well!
