If you’ve ever cracked your iPhone’s screen and taken it to the Apple Store to get it repaired, you may’ve been shocked by just how pricey it was. I recently shattered the corner of my three month old Apple Watch and getting the screen replaced would’ve cost me $300, which is about 70% of the watch’s retail price. So it made more sense for me to just buy a new one. And stories like these have only become more common as Apple’s repair prices have been on the rise. Now there is something I want to make clear before we talk about Apple in particular. And that is, the repair cost of almost all electronics have been steadily increasing for the past decade. It’s certainly not a phenomenon exclusive to Apple. I’m simply using Apple as prime example since it’s the company I’m most familiar with and because they do happen to charge a little more for repairs than their competition.

I think you should’ve researched the subject more before posting a video that shows how biased you are. Check out Louis Rossman’s videos lol
Edit: I just realised, you’re called "Apple Explained".. Bias was already visible before watching the video lol

Right to repair is necessary to reduce E-waste and save the environment

  7. bobcharlotte on December 14, 2021 at 6:21 am

As soon as you said you bought a new apple watch instead of repairing your old one, exactly want they want from a customer, it shows your mind cannot be changed and you’ll defend anything Apple does.
Waiting for your defense of their stance on right to repair by saying "it allows Apple to maintain control over their products."

  8. TheDeathmail on December 14, 2021 at 6:22 am

It’s funny, Louis Rossman and Linus Tech Tips have multiple times pointed out that Apple products are good and their prices are actually fair for the quality… but their repairability and the cost for the parts are a scam….

It’s quite sad really… they can do better… and they don’t… and they are greedy… they want more money… say what you will… but they should never have been so cruel to repair groups and shouldn’t design things to be harder to fix on purpose… they just want more control… and it sucks…

I’m also going to add that the price of repairs is better in the USA, still expensive, but consider other places around the world that charge absolutely mammoth prices. This goes for apple devices themselves as well. The prices of repairs or apple products explodes in places like India, Australia, Mexico, UK. I would’ve spent $1,400AUD on an iPhone 12 128GB, but is cheaper in the US, where it costs around $800-$900. Obviously the USA’s economy is way different to Australia’s, but the conversion still makes me want to cry in a fetal position when I’m looking for a new apple product, because I know it will make my wallet give me the silent treatment for months on end.

The wrong decisions being made in a fast paced working environment aren’t a thing. The workers work in retail selling products. Their job is to sell you things and services. A good employee will get lots of sales and move up ion the company. An honest employee will educate the buyer on just what they need to do and in most cases, that would mean turning away a potential sale of a product or service. I did this all the time while working at a tech store myself and we made less sales on those days. I was constantly told to push product sales and find any reason to make a sale rather than be honest with the customer and actually help them solve their issue. Instead of restoring someone’s phone that was full of hentai viruses, we were told to persuade the owner to buy a new, faster and a flashier phone. The apple store employees aren’t making mistakes. They’d lose their job real quick if that was the case. They are trainer to sell products and they are just acting in accordance with their programming.

  21. Arthur Danielles on December 14, 2021 at 6:36 am

It is just one aspect re the ‘right to repair’ activists ongoing up against those like Apple that will see its market share decline. Lets take an example. ‘A’ produces an amazing device better than anyone else.👀 ‘B’ works hard and produces a product that is the same if not better or maybe equal to it. ‘A’ has a bad reputation re after sales, repairs and does not agree with the ‘right to repair’ activists. ‘B’ ensures it has a good affordable and well trained personnel equipped after sales team or allows certain approved INDEPENDENT repair specialists to carry out repairs etc on their products. 👀It gives them the right to buy spares, replace and maintain equipment from them plus give them access to a comprehensive online database that has circuit diagrams, tips and more on replacing items and ! ‘B’ also ensures that ALL of its products are put together in such a way that makes disassembly possible providing the method to do so is followed correctly.👍 ‘B’ has a fixed up front pricing policy AND ANY customer can refer their repair or quotation and or similar for re evaluation at no cost to the customer. NOW.. will Apple survive if that ever happens? Arrogance and failure to look after your customers whilst milking them dry… denying them the right to repair?? 👀 I’ve seen too much over the years re Apple and their indifference which won’t have me buying into it.

yeah and putting the glass under the camera in the back of the phone, to prevent 3rd party shops of repairing the back early, is definitely not because apple is greedy and want to make money, let’s get real, everybody knows that companies do that to make more money, but yeah sure sometimes they have a reasonable explanation for it, sometimes they don’t

  30. Samuniet on December 14, 2021 at 6:44 am

I personally think it’s absolute bull shit that Apple is playing the ‘protect your intellectual property, security, and consumer safety. How is repairing a device an issue for privacy? They need your password or touch/face ID to get into the phone. Repairing the screen doesn’t make it a privacy violation, it’s more money for Apple. Ever wondered why Apple never does built in protection to an iPhone or other devices? They can, but they won’t, because again, they know that you will come to them asking for their help to repair something that should be able to be repaired by a 3rd party repairer. Unfortunately, and fortunately I have fallen into the Apple trap myself, because I like the brand, however I’m scared to break my new iPhone due to the risk it poses of putting me out of pocket hundreds of dollars for what’s pretty much a piece of glass with an apple logo on the back of it. $400 glass is ridiculous, $60 is more reasonable.

"Why Apple repairs are so expensive"
    Greed.

  44. tomas tomus on December 14, 2021 at 7:11 am

They diagnose Problem very easy. First they disasemble till the only motherboard is exposed. Then putt in the Factory line and use its custom made Machine called PCB tester. Then AI optical inspector which can spot board physical defects

  45. Charles Cheng on December 14, 2021 at 7:11 am

Repair cost is so high simply because they dont want you to repair but get a new one……

  47. tomas tomus on December 14, 2021 at 7:12 am

Youre False!!!!! Apple sends every repair to Factory at China or wherever Manufacturing plant is for that product. Asus has in Taiwan. MSI laptops are in China – Shanghai and so. Repair prices are set to favour their Repair Business Model.
